Trump may be off the hook for his 2020 election plot, but his allies aren’t

Donald Trump’s victory in 2024 largely shattered the efforts to prosecute him for his efforts to subvert the 2020 election.

But dozens of his allies still face state-level criminal charges for their roles in the plot. The five cases against them have plodded along for years, mired in procedural gridlock, prosecutorial bungles and appellate review.

None of those cases is anywhere near a trial, yet they all remain pending — a state of legal limbo that exemplifies the nation’s halting struggle to reckon with, and achieve accountability for, Trump’s failed bid to seize a second term despite Joe Biden’s victory nearly five years ago.

On Wednesday, one of the cases will be at the Nevada Supreme Court for arguments on a key procedural issue. Two others, after long stretches of dormancy, could be revitalized in the next several months. The upcoming developments could determine whether any of the defendants ever have to face a jury for meddling in the election — even as Trump uses his office to perpetuate the bogus claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

At the core of all the cases is the effort, in December 2020, to assemble false slates of Trump electors in states he narrowly lost. Dozens of the Republicans activists who posed as electors remain under indictment. But some of the cases also sweep in more prominent Trump allies, like his former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and conservative attorneys John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani.

trump devotees go to their happy place when the subject of the plot to steal the 2020 election comes up. Pretending it never happened with a combination of denial, misinformation, and a steadfast refusal to recognize demonstrable truths.

They aren't alone. The conservatives on the SC waved their magical wand of fabricated immunity for all the dealings trump had with DoJ officials while he was conspiring to steal the election. Forcing Jack Smith to amend his indictment. Leaving plenty of meat on the bone for a conviction had the trial proceeded.

If I've learned any lesson from trump's use of lawfare to avoid accountability for his crimes it is the glacial way our system of justice works can be enormously problematic in the pursuit of justice. A lesson his co-conspirators have apparently learned well.

Hey, I get it. Dealing with reality is hard for you. It challenges your entire belief system. Better to go to your happy place, seek the warm embrace of your blankie, and pull your tin foil hat on tight. The real world is not a friendly place for trumples.

They constantly (try to) equate something that someone else did with something that Trump did that was at least one order of magnitude worse. They HAVE to.

Another great ongoing example is The Insurrection vs street riots.

Yes Stalinberg, that is LAWFARE from the demented LEFT.
What the **** is your point? :dunno:

They don't know it, but when they fall back on false equivalences..........their last and only line of defense............they admit defeat.

Because it has become so commonplace and has gone on for so long we sometimes forget how absolutely batshyte crazy it is that millions of trumples are still lost in the mass delusion of "stop the steal."

BTW, I take it as a point of personal pride when the minions don't reply cuz they are too afraid to engage on the subject.

You haven't even begun to experience reality yet, skippy.

Reality is that your TDS threads focus on irrelevant minutia.

You should be focusing on why the irrelevant democrats have a 19% approval.

before 2020 and after it is completely legal to create electors for both sides and to attempt to challenge the selected electors as was attempted in 2020 hell in 2016 election the democrats dd the same thing to Trump.

I disagree that the trials of trump's co-conspirators for the attempt to subvert democracy by stealing the 2020 election is minutia. It's the most egregious act of betrayal to the country by any prez in history.

You are the ones who lower everything even if you accuse others of it. Somehow an attractive woman is hate and an arrogant heavy pig is to the forefront of human love and continuation. Younger people should at least try to be in some healthy shape. Nothing is perfect.

I'm afraid it isn't. Ken Chesebro already plead guilty for his role in the scheme.
I am afraid it IS. The procedures are written in law and are legal. After 2020 the dems tried to change the law cause the republicans if they hadn't panicked over the riot would have succeeded legally.

Mr. Trump set the fraudulent elector plan into motion in early December, ensured that it was carried out by co-conspirators and Campaign agents in the targeted states, and monitored its progress. On December 6, for instance, Mr. Trump and Co-Conspirator 2 called the Chair woman of the Republican National Committee and told her that it was important for the RNC to help organize Mr. Trump's elector nominees in the targeted states. 42 During the call, Co-Conspirator 2 told a lie that the co-conspirators would use to induce the cooperation of many of the fraudulent electors: that Mr. Trump's electors' votes would be used only if ongoing litigation in their state proved successful for Mr. Trump. 43 From that point on, Mr. Trump communicated with Co-Conspirators 1 and 2 about the plan, and they in tum communicated with Co-Conspirators 5 and 6. 44

We've seen what lawfare has looked like for the past eight years.

Agreed. There's always been too much focus on trump's treasonous acts and not enough on how the POT continues to enable them.
