The day the Earth stood still. Who saw it? At the time, it was stunning. Michael Rennie stared and we did not know him.

Did you see it?

Now do you recall the film?

Saw it on TV decades ago. I felt that the Keanu Reeves 2008 remake was better.
I Started today to watch the 2008 version but was not able to clearly hear the starting people talking enough to understand them.

First saw it about 70 years ago, and once or twice since, way back then.
Impressive 6-7 decades ago, though part of the plot was a bit unrealistic.

Seen it many times. It's not bad for a sci fi B movie. He was in a lot of American films after that movie.

Is this the movie where the book "How to serve man" turned out to be a cookbook?

I watched that episode just a few months ago was watching twilight zone on whatever service it is on maybe paramount?

Have it in my DVD collection.

Of course, the 1951 original was a Christian Allegory.

A visitor from the Sky comes down to Earth to give mankind a warning. He takes on the name "Mr. Carpenter" (Hint, who else was a carpenter?) and gets to know humanity. He is killed, resurrected, and gives everyone a final warning before ascending into the heavens.

Unlike a lot of 1950s Sci-Fi which looks a little silly today, this one still holds up.

They wanted Claude Rains for the role, but he turned it down. Considering Rennie as in the same league as Rains was a big boost to his American career. Rennie was at one time the highest paid actor in Britain, but his career was in decline there, so this role came along at the right time for him..

Do not recall him staring a great deal .

Rather , he was just one of the hundreds of top British actors who perhaps stared but certainly starred in some Hollywood films .

The typo was my error but on topic.

What is unrealistic is that we have had visitors from space. I was a teen when I saw it at a local movie.

Why would the OP assume "many probably did not see"?

I'll dispute that.
Seems there's ample evidence "They" have more than visited, but had a key role in human evolution.

The Geminga Scenario
What I found implausible was that an Alien culture would try to intimidate the World the way we saw in the film. Or that all the nation's would comply with the demands from the "Visitor".
