None.

Back either Gary Johnson or Jill Stein because those that ran on the GOP and Democratic ticket would be left some states this November and could not win.

Who would be the best choice to run as an independent?

Donald Trump seeing as that's what he's intimated an inclination to do on multiple occasions, and because he's self funding, which makes him beholden to nobody but himself. That strikes me as being about as well suited to being an Independent candidate as anyone can be.
