I figure I'll save $3000 in income taxes this year, but I don't see it as getting my money back. Not with the deficits the government is running up. I'd rather the government pay its bills, and figure as long they lack fiscal responsibility, the free spenders will always have a place in government.
I adjusted my federal withholding last week. Of all our various income sources the largest is my pension and so I only have taxes withheld from there (adding a good bit extra to cover other income) which eases things a good bit. Regarding the new $6000 deduction for us seniors, from what I came to understand the deduction is reduced by 6¢ for every dollar of income over $150,000.
It doesn't affect me but I found the new handling of overtime interesting. From what I understand if you earn $36 per hour and work 8 hours overtime at time and a half, you'll still pay tax on the extra 8 hours at $36 per hour, but the 8 hours at the additional $18 per hour won't be taxed. Trump did well in simplifying taxes in his first term. Making business jump through hoops to track and report this on employees' tax statements is a step backwards.
