Thinking of an old "The West Wing" episode where a speechwriter writes the titular line for a pseech the President is to give I got to thinking about how the world seems to prefer a strongman even if they then complain about them. Putin in Russia has overwhelmingly positive approval ratings, President Obama has low approval being seen as weak, and Israel supports Operation Protective Edge because it's showing strength, and Saddam Hussein held Iraq together by being a heartless murdering bastard. Now that he's gone and a more moderate, rule of law government is in place in comes ISIS who seem to have public support showing their strength.
It seems the world prefers shows of strength to more moderate lovefests in governments. We love to complain in the meantime of course, but as we see everywhere we look, strength births stability. When strength is absent, chaos ensues.
Maybe it's heartless to even consider, but perhaps the solution to the Israel security question isn't moderation and negotiation but war and heavy-handedness. Wipe out your enemies and opposition and those who remain will at least tolerate you if not outright love you. Negotiate and show weakness and nothing is achieved but chaos. The middle eastern countries especially seem to have done much better with strong repressive leaders. May not have been ideal, but the civil wars and chaos were held back at least. If stability is the desired outcome, only strength can achieve it.
Go Israel, don't stop until they fall to their knees, throw down their last weapon, and plead for mercy. They'll like us when we win.
