The White House almost immediately dispatched its spokespeople to walk back the remark, insisting on no change to U.S. foreign policy and stressing the president was not calling for regime change in Russia.

Their fears were well-founded: Paranoia of foreign meddling and an indignance at Western demands regarding domestic matters serve as central components of the psyche of many Russian citizens. And they risked emboldening the Kremlin’s position before a domestic audience at a time Western powers would like to stoke Putin’s opposition.

Instead, the comment ENRAGED some of America’s closest partners in the West’s attempts to contain Moscow and deter the Russian leader. French President Emmanuel Macron appeared particularly concerned, telling broadcaster France 3 that Biden’s comments could be NEEDLESSLY ESCALATORY.

“At this point the Kremlin – and Russians, too – think that Biden is a senile, self-rightious fool who is run by his hawkish staff,” says Nina Khrushcheva, professor of international affairs at The New School. “These insults from him, the man who lectured [former President Donald] Trump on ‘words matter,’ are just part of the same old American hypocritical nonsense.”

Without a doubt, under international law, NO ONE statesman has the right to speak out like that when he represents his country.

But when international law is substituted for "rules" made up and formulated by a bunch of mentally inadequate people from 58 E 68th St, New York, NY 10065, who claim that "they are ALLOWED to do anything and the authority is given to them by God" (whatever name he may be given), there is an irresponsible sense of absolute permissiveness.

This is the trouble with America's political high-rollers. The trouble that has haunted them for centuries.

I disagree with Biden and Putin, but there is no way in hell that I agree with some bullshit international law that prevents a leader from speaking out on behalf of their country.
