Russia is in the middle of a decades-long modernization of its strategic and nonstrategic nuclear forces to replace Soviet-era weapons with newer systems. It is a fact that in a conventional drawn out war including a standard lowered military we would lose most of our assets while China replaces their faster. China is still behind us in some technologies and is catching up in others. We invent a lot of the technologies which costs a lot of money but applying them in actual service and perfecting them costs a lot of money also. Plus we have spent a lot of money on lemons or projects where the technologies are not perfected and the costs are huge.

There's always hundreds of billions for the military but when it comes to our infrastructure, health care, education and almost everything else, there isn't any money.

I would cut that military budget at least in half. Put at least half that savings to the deficit with the rest going to rebuild our nation.

Well, as your Communist leader in the Oval Office, has said publicly, that "we no longer need a standing army," you may get your wish. However, without a standing army you can't actually win a war. To win a war, you need to hold on to territory, not just drop bombs on it.
