  And perhaps no one is facing as much internal fire as Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who will likely be ejected from Republican House leadership for rejecting Trump’s lie about losing the 2020 election and blaming him for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
  But “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said maybe there’s a reason for the infighting, tweeting:
  
  During his monologue on Monday night, Colbert called out House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for leading the push to oust Cheney from her role as conference chair, the party’s third-ranking position in the House.

I think what's happening is that the parties are shuffling again. This has happened five times in our history -- with Andrew Jackson, the rise of the GOP in the 1850s, McKinley in 1896, during the New Deal, and during Civil Rights -- so now we're moving from our sixth to our seventh two-party system. The Democrats have some strain between the moderates and the far left, but the Trump branch of the GOP is really reforming the party from being conservative to being all about the nationalism. There is a press release due to come out literally tomorrow (Thursday) signed by 100-ish conservatives threatening to make their own party. That is, to say the least, a red flag.

Give it an election cycle or two and you'll probably see some pretty significant tectonic shifts.
