The White House is now a bubble where loyalty, not ability, defines success.

‘Consider Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

No one should be surprised that Hegseth is flailing in his new role, one of the most arduous and complicated in the U.S. government, if not the world. When Donald Trump proposed that Hegseth run the agency, the response was broadly unified: Hegseth lacked the experience needed to do the job effectively. You could debate the other controversies surrounding his bid for the role ad nauseam, but there was no way to reasonably argue that the Fox News talk-show host was prepared to run the Pentagon.

Hegseth was confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate anyway because Trump and a universe of voices who support him insisted Hegseth was the best choice for the job — because he was Trump’s choice for the job. Republican senators who undoubtedly knew better went along, betting that things wouldn’t get so bad under Hegseth that it was worth stirring up the fury of that pro-Trump bubble.

It’s the same bet that prominent Republicans have been making on Trump himself since 2015. Now, as Trump too is flailing — polling and the data make clear that he is — it’s trivial to identify that insular chorus of cheerleaders and cynics as a root cause.

The president owes his political career to that same bubble. Over the past few decades, the fringe right and then Republicans more broadly embraced discussions of the world that were mostly devoid of nuance: left bad, right good. The internet allowed for the emergence of bespoke “news” organizations (and, later, social media accounts) catering to conspiratorial partisan rhetoric — an alternative to traditional reporting unhampered by criticism or unpopular truths.’

No, no one should be surprised that Hegseth is flailing in his new role – or that Trump is failing, for that matter; both of whom are unfit to hold any public office.

Since when has Trump ever given a damn about competency in government.

Though if there is one area that Trump excels in besides grifting and corruption, it is chaos and the tanking of markets.

It's pretty funny the way you libroids always have all of these made up angry statements about Trump....yet it's always so difficult for you to say off of the top of your heads what specifically proved that what you're saying isn't pure unadulterated BS.

Red Alert....DNC buzzword used!
Chaos and sabotage.

The only thing that Democrats are any good at.

The level of desperation coming from the left is almost palpable! Trump has assembled a team that is laser focused on accomplishing the agenda that he ran on and they are working at as feverish a pace as I've EVER seen in Washington! Hegseth has already affected recruiting in the armed forces. Instead of lowering standards to get warm bodies Hegseth is raising them. He's getting rid of the woke bullshit that was making our military a joke and getting back to making warriors. That's not "flailing"...that's doing your job!

How is Hegseth allegedly "flailing"?

That word was used three times with no explanation

Our security is fucked up? Really, Moonie? How many people died because of this fuck up? How many missions didn't go forth as planned? Oh...that's right...ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you mean off the top of their head? What angry statements? The Trump is a grifter? A person that tricks people into giving them money dishonestly. I believe that has already been established, adjudicated numerous times, and Trump has paid tens of millions of dollars in "settlements"

Corruption? This administration is making Harding's, and the Teapot Dome Scandal, seem tame in comparison, even lame. Hell, it will even duplicate Teapot Dome when it comes to the Department of Interior, wait for those no-bid contracts to go out, lease rates for OUR public resources will tank. Is Elon looking into the revenue side? Hell no.

But the tariffs? I screamed about it from the beginning. How many exemptions were handed out? What, I think we are well over two hundred now. How does Apple get one for the I-phone? Wonder what that cost them? I bet they got a sign-up sheet at the White House, course you going to have drop some bucks to some campaign fund, some political PAC.

But to the OP, yes, Pete is a good example of this administration's cabinet picks and appointments. It is loyalty over qualifications. The Defense Department, by all indications, is in "chaos". The level of departures is literally unprecedented, and it will create a massive brain drain that will run deep in the Pentagon for a generation.

You cannot be specific about Trump and not sight something that the media literally made up.

The MSM keeps creating these hoaxes about Trump so they can get idiots like you to hate him.

Everyone that meets him for the first time gets the same impression. Bill Maher, Glenn Beck, everyone.

Would those be the same "brains" that planned the Afghan withdrawal, Winston? Are those the genius's that we've lost?

What corruption are you babbling about? Biden was corrupt. He and his family made millions influence peddling! Pelosi is corrupt. She and her hubby have made millions in the stock market through insider information!

Trump? Trump was worth far less after being President than he was before he ran for President! Use you head for something other than a hat rack, dude!
