This will freak some folks out....

The United States is now the country with the second most Spanish speakers, only behind Mexico, according to the report "Spanish: A Living Language 2024".

This report by David Fernández, professor at the University of Alcalá, in Spain , highlights that the United States, with just over 57.4 million Spanish speakers, has ousted Colombia, with around 52.6 million, as the second country with the most speakers.

Mexico has around 132 million, Spain more than 48, Argentina around 47, Venezuela and Peru 34 each country, Chile 20, Ecuador and Guatemala 17 each, Bolivia 12, Cuba and the Dominican Republic around 11 in each case, almost 10 Honduras, more than 7 both Paraguay and Nicaragua, more than 6 El Salvador, around 5 Costa Rica, another 4.5 Panama, just over 3 both Uruguay and Puerto Rico and around 1.6 Equatorial Guinea.

These figures include those who speak it as their native language along with those who have limited competence due to factors such as sharing it with other languages, including indigenous languages, or having learned it, such as migrants who have arrived in countries such as Spain.

I am working on joining the ranks of those that can speak it.
so what?

I do agree that some have a much better aptitude. When I joined the Marines I did well enough on the ASVAB they made me take the DLAB ( Defense Language Aptitude Battery). When I got done with it the proctor told me he had never seen anyone do so well on the ASVAB and so poorly on the DLAB.

I want to learn enough to get by when we move to Panama, I do not need to pass for a native born speaker.

My sister moved to Slovenia and she has learned that language which is 100 times harder than Spanish, so I have faith I can do it.

No language is "harder" than another.

Why do you suppose one must be able to prove they can articulate English before they’re able to become naturalized?
What’s more “official” than that?

The language aspect of the naturalization test is not exactly comprehensive or challenging.

So, it was fun as shit watching the heads explode on all our resident racist.

That was sort of the whole point of the thread.
I had more fun watching you back-peddle and pretend you weren’t gloating when you posted the OP.
Now you’ve moved to…”I was just trolling all along like 13 year olds do on Twitter.”
So tell us, is it a good or bad thing that so many Mexicans have broke into our nation that America is now the “second country with the most Spanish speakers”?

Canada is huge, but most of it is uninhabitable.
Its full of Mooses and gooses.

Mexico has a large population because its always had a large population with plenty of agriculture. A reminder, Mexico had 12MM or more in 1492, vs. 16MM for France in 1500.

Not everyone who speaks Spanish is "Mexican," dumbass. Not every immigrant is "illegal," dumbass. "Not every person from Latin America is "Mexican," dumbass.

My reason for the OP was made very clear in my very first sentence in the OP.

Once again, it never occurred to me that the only people speaking Spanish were Mexicans that broke into the country.

Only a mindless racist like yourself would assume such a thing.

Indeed. As noted there are 212MM Brazilians. The GDP of Brazil is equal or better than Russia's in 2024. And they party way harder!
