I'm not sure about any manufacturing returning to the US.
Businesses work on multi-year investment plans, and there is so much turmoil in present and future tariffs, they have no idea what the next year will bring.

If there is a %140+ percent tariff on Chinese widgets, they can quickly set up a labor intensive factory (little machinery, just people) that can produce widgets, paying twice the salary that China does, and still undersell the Chinese.

But if the Chinese tariffs are drastically reduced or eliminated, people would go right back to the cheaper Chinese widgets, and their business would end up closing, and firing all their employees.

For example, when you insult, mock, threaten and blackmail your former friends and allies, that's probably not smart or constructive long term thinking. When you turn an incredibly complicated global economy on its head by constantly changing your highly influential tariff policy, that's probably not smart or constructive long term thinking.

I don't know why this needs to be so goddamn difficult to understand. Most adults know this naturally.

It isn't that they believe the policies will hurt Americans, on the contrary, they are concerned they will be effecfive and HELP Americans as they did during his first incarnation in office. No more blatant example of this rogue dishonesty than those angry at DOGE for saving the taxpayer from being misused. Some critics are sinply on the payroll of other nations whether knowingly or not. Agents of foreign enemies who have been manipulated or are impulsively anti-American without a true grasp of how miserable their existence would be without the sacrifices of America.
