There were no diplomatic ties with the pope after it was found that one of the conspirators of Lincoln's murder was found to be a bodyguard for the pope and it wasn't until 1984 when Reagan re-established ties. You know nothing about the Jesuits and how they were kicked out of 83 countries for subterfuge, political intrigue and espionage .
