In his classic, and mildly prophetic, book, "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", Douglas Adams describes the history of the Golgafrinchans from planet Golgafrincham.
Their society, like most societies, contained three classes of people. The leaders, the workers, and the middlemen.
When their overpopulated planet faces imminent destruction (a fake imminent destruction as it turns out), the Golgafrinchans created three giant space arks.
The A-Ark contained the leaders and thinkers, The C-Ark contained workers, engineers, and doers. The B-Ark was filled with "The Middlemen", advertisers, social influencers, middle-level managers, and bureaucrats.
The B-Ark was launched into space ahead of the other arks, which never actually left Golgafrincham.
The B-Ark wandered through space and crash landed on our Earth during the time of human development.
So, as it turns out, all humans on Earth are the direct decedents of the Golgafrinchan's B-Ark.
