Last night the power went off here at 9pm. My phone was dead so I got my solar panel out and hung it up outside and zip! It wont charge. I guess it's busted or something. I don't get it, the thing worked ok the other day.

It seems you haven't been there. Norway has an enormous coastline bordering the North Sea. Winds are more than sufficient for energy production. That they haven't gone into it heavily is due to their enormous capacity for hydropower.

I think we can see in most of the countries you listed that it won't be sustainable. It certainly won't work here with 300 to 400 million people.
