Once people get paid with checks and benefits, they do not want to give it up so easily. It's others that must give it up. This is a conundrum.
What's wrong with downsizing the federal gov't? The US is the most broke nation in history.
Where did I say downsizing was a bad thing?
I said cutting 2/3rds (2,000,000 or 3,000,000) would cripple the government.
You can do it, but you should recognize the results.
WW
It will cripple the democrat partyProve that it would cripple the gov't.
You say that like it's a bad thing.Trump is openly firing those he suspects of being a Democrat
~~~~~~>Oh, you will keep them all.
The point isn't that they would be eliminated, they would be crippled. Two different things.
That's the problem with the bumper sticker mentality, people don't think through consequences.
WW
Yep. That will definitely workMy advice to Trump: Don't play softball with these MOFOs. Gut everything that supports the democraps and their hold on power. Everything. Get medieval on their asses.
The Schumer Shutdown Firings Are Underway
Federal government layoffs begin as Democrats refuse to fund essential services amidst shutdown.townhall.com
Permanent firings of federal government workers are underway as Senate Democrats continue their refusal to vote for a clean continuing resolution that doesn't fund National Public Radio or healthcare for illegal aliens.
"The RIFs have begun," Office of Budget and Management Director Russ Vought posted on X Friday. RIF is short for "reduction in force."
Before the shutdown, Vought explained what Democrats are demanding from Americans and at what cost.
During a meeting with his Cabinet Thursday and the Finnish President, President Donald Trump previewed the cuts as Democrats continue to play games.
Commentary:
The correct framing of the issue is why does the U.S. Senate require 60 votes for anything related to the budget?
If we care about “democracy”, (which the corporate media sometimes harps about IF it can use that term to denigrate Trump and MAGA), then elections must have consequences the minority gets no veto power over appropriations for discretionary spending.
In a Civil Society, one would think that the vast preponderance of the pep[e would agree on the 'Common Sense' things to do.
The filibuster used to be 67 votes to pass until some magic was performed by Mondale in 1975 to make it 60 votes.
If the vast preponderance don’t agree, do nothing.
Of course we could always go kinetic in the absence of common sense....
Cutting Federal employment is the only option in this case. The number of Federal Government civilian employees is approximately 2,000,000
Reduction In Force layoffs on Friday = 4,000, more to come on Monday and the day after.
Wake me up when the RIFs get to 500,000 then we'll be talking numbers.
MAGA lies.Note to the right: posts like this one demonstrate just how the left loves to try and manipulate public opinion, especially when they are in the wrong. In this case, they want to say the shutdown is the fault of the right, but the vast majority of the republicans voted to keep the government open and the vast majority of the democrats voted to shut the government down. But they want the people to believe the right wanted to shut down the government. This is why the left should never be allowed near the levers of power. The people voting against these funding bills are the ones that want the government shut down.
Note to Konradv: Don't bother. Just don't. I don't care what you think and no one else here does either. This was only a PSA to the right to ignore people like you.
Negotiate.
- Republicans made NO changes to the current budget passed last year under Biden. It was the Democrats that proposed changes this year.
- Budget passed in the Republican-Controlled House.
- For a budget to pass in the Senate, a minimum 60 votes are needed. The Republicans hold 53 seats.
- All Senate Republicans except one voted for the budget.
It was the Democrats that introduced changes to the budget and are holding firm on not voting for the budget unless the Republicans accept those changes.
Pass the CR then we negotiate.Negotiate.
Pass the CR then we negotiate.
Otherwise Thune will just change the rules.
The BBB isn’t the the budgetFalse, check the BBB that was passed (One Big Beautiful Bill Act (acronyms OB3; OBBBA; OBBB; BBB), or the Big Beautiful Bill (P.L. 119-21).
True.
False the BBB passed as an appropriations bill done under reconciliation (meaning a simple majority).
The Senate holding 53 seats is true, hold that thought...
Incorrect. Remember 53 Senators?
The BBB was passed 51 to 50 on the vote with Vice President Vance having to cast the tie breaking vote. That means * * 3 * * GOP Senators voted against it making the vote 50/50 and resulted in the VP having to vote. The VP ONLY votes for tie breakers.
~~~~~~>You and others like you need to research the history of the filibuster and how the Senate is supposed to be the more deliberative body and actually debate the issues more. You said some very accurate history but fail to look at the big picture. It was designed into the Senate rules to prevent the tyranny of the majority found in true democracies. It was intended to allow cooler head to prevail on divisive issues and promote serious debate. Whether that is either good or bad depends on your personal views, but the Republicans do not want to implement the nuclear option of a simple majority for the passage of funding legislation because the Democrats will simply use it against them should they ever regain the majority.
If Thune put the rule change to a vote it would be close. Rand would likely support it since he's a deficit hawk.Tune can’t just change the rules and it’s unlikely he would have the 51 votes if he tried.

Providing healthcare is none of the federal government's business.~~~~~~>
Indeed, not much has changed since the First Continental Congress.
Politicians looking to line their pockets and ignore the people.
From lack of food and boots for the Continental army to today's Democrats ignoring our debts and the average American needs to stabilize the national budget and still retain healthcare for Americans.
The demands by Schumer and DSA to increase the CR by $1.5 Trillion dollars is preposterous and an attempt to hold the American gov't and people hostage unless the gov't ponies up $1.5 Trillion to satisfy Democrat demands.
