The RNC is being quite open about its rationale for voter suppression.......this time.

RNC Sues Arizona To Block Voting Access for Overseas U.S. Citizens

Republicans filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to block a state law that allows certain U.S. citizens living abroad to vote in Arizona elections.

The Arizona law at issue permits overseas U.S. citizens to register to vote in Arizona if one of their parents is a registered Arizona voter. The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the state GOP argue that the statute violates the Arizona Constitution’s residency requirement for voting.

The plaintiffs also argue that voters allowed under the challenged law are “disproportionately non-Republican,” citing internal data showing that only 18.2% of overseas voters in Maricopa County are registered Republicans, compared to 51.3% who are registered Democrats.

“Democrats want to cheat in our elections by allowing votes from people who have never established legal residency,” RNC Chair Michael Whatley said in a press release.

This new challenge fits into a broader Republican legal strategy to undermine overseas voting access. In North Carolina, Republican Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin tried to have overseas voters disenfranchised as part of his failed effort earlier this year to overturn the results of the election.

Voter suppression efforts by the RNC and state Repub parties have always been about preventing people from voting if they aren't Repubs. The difference being this time around they said the quiet part out loud.

DOJ Sides With Wyoming in Proof of Citizenship Voting Lawsuit

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a statement of interest Tuesday defending Wyoming for its newly enacted law that requires documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration.

The DOJ argues that restrictive registration laws like HB 156 are valid and constitutional, emphasizing that states have broad authority to secure their voter rolls and prevent alleged fraud.

“Requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote is one valid way for Wyoming to secure the voting process,” the DOJ wrote.

The plaintiffs in the case argue that HB 156 imposes unconstitutional burdens on eligible voters as it requires registrants to provide documents such as a U.S. passport, birth certificate or naturalization papers — which, they argue, many eligible voters do not have ready access to.

The DOJ does not address the plaintiffs’ specific claims about the burdens imposed by HB 156. Instead, the statement focuses narrowly on defending the state’s general authority to enact such measures and that the state is justified in attempting to bolster voter confidence.

I'm all for solving problems with the country. Voter fraud isn't one of them.

Election dates are widely published.
They aren't a surprise. Eligible voters have plenty of time to find their documents.

If you aren’t an Arizona citizen why should you get to vote there? It makes perfect sense they shouldn’t get to vote. Why the hell is someone that isn’t a citizen there get to vote on how they conduct their business?

If you don't live in the state, if you never lived in the state, Dems want you to register to vote in
Arizona, if a parent lives in the state.

Awesome!

North Carolina formally launched a project Thursday that could disenfranchise tens of thousands of voters, despite pushback from national Democrats.

The plan, conceived by a former top GOP legislative aide, would create a two-tiered system for some voters with missing information — allowing them to vote in federal elections, where legal protections for voters are stronger, but not in state and local contests. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) sued North Carolina last month, alleging that the state failed to collect information from voters required by the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). In response, the North Carolina State Board of Elections released a plan that requires voters with missing information to vote a provisional ballot unless they respond to mail notifications by providing the additional information.

POT efforts aimed at voter suppression are relentless.

Actual residence has been the foundation of citizen's voting since our nation's founding.

The citizen themself has to establish that they ARE a resident of the State to vote in the State's elections.

Proxy voting based on another citizen's residence is voting fraud at it's most blatant.

Partisan allegiance to party/ideology regarding voting is not, should not be the issue. Actual legal residency and proof of such should be the qualification. If the "overseas U.S. citizen can prove they were a resident before going overseas than they might use a parent's address for theirs to vote. But if they can't prove residence before going overseas than SOL.

The unpleasant precedent set by this would be in the case of their parent's being divorced and/or resident in two different states, than their overseas child might be able to vote in each state, which should be clear fraud.
