The things you have faith in can also be fact. A child who learns to walk doesn't have proof that s/he can walk but only believe so because s/he sees others doing it and is encouraged to do so and many actual do walk. Faith is actually just believing in things that you believe are true. In a world that is devoid of a knowledge of all truth we have to rely on faith to succeed in much of what we set out to do. If we lived in a world without faith, we would all be curled up in a ball in a corner and probably not live very long.

Yes, they do have evidence of others walking but they have never done it and don't really know if they can. But based on that evidence, they believe they can and give it a try.
