sadly the prayer is seen as the deed when it is not.
There are going to be a lot of shocked 'Christians' when they get to Heaven. Sitting in the pews on Sunday and claiming to have accepted Jesus as their savior yet not living the teachings of the Bible isn't what saves people.

No panacea for societal ills?

Honor your father and mother
Do not murder
Don not steal
Do not commit adultery
Do not envy / covet - be thankful for what you have
Love your fellow man
Treat everyone as you would like to be treated
In all things show kindness
Be generous
Do not cheat others (Zacceus, the tax collector)

Look outside yourself and our own problems / issues and understand those around you are also going through their own similar problems

Jesus did not hang out with as much with those who had been 'saved' - he sought out the lost, the abandoned, the sick, the lame, the lost

Where you see the teachings of Jesus are no 'panacea for societal ills' I see a 'how to' manual / teachings that, if learned / accepted / applied correctly / lived would solve just about all of our societal ills.

Unfortunately men are born of sin and it is our sin that has taken control, separated us from God, and has created our societal ills.

But that's just me. We disagree, and that's ok. I respect that and you.
you seem to think those ideas about behavior originated in the Old Testament.

They didn't.

And I do not believe a man is born a sinner. The only time all men are indeed equal is as a babe dependent on others for his very life.
That's another thing that seems self evident. Have you been to a day care? Do you see parents teaching their kids who to steal, lie, or hit each other? They seem to be selfish, and prone to evil form the very start.

If human beings are naturally good, and have no evil tendencies, where does all the evil and hate we see around us, come from?

And if you really do believe parents are teaching their kids to be evil, why are kids from broken homes, or end up without parents, end up the highest rates of imprisonment over those who grow up in intact families?

I know for my own sake, my father beat me when I was evil. That's how I learned to not be evil. True story.
I don't compare the behavior of adults to the behavior of children.

And I never said humans were good or bad naturally or otherwise. And evil is nothing but a human concept to usually describe behavior that is particularly reprehensible.

And violence especially towards children is never excusable.

I am willing to agree you have fallen for the ruse ...

.
How many on the right fell for this 'stop the steal' horseshit? How many still do? How many opposed the attack on the capitol by seditionists sent by Trump?

Its not an insignificant proportion of the Republican party. A week ago, 70% of polled republicans believed that Trump received more votes than Biden.

Conspiracy batshit is mainstream among Republicans. Their beliefs are such a series of nested bullshit, its frightening.
How many Republicans did one thing or another still doesn't address the idea you have fallen for the ruse.
If you want to suggest they were as stupid as you are ... I am willing to accept that as well ...

The U.S is less and less religious every generation and as time goes on religious traditionalism becomes more and more of a loser at the polls. The party either needs a tune up or it needs to disband and reform as a party more focused on true economic conservatism. I might actually vote for Republicans from time to time if they ditched the bigoted, science denying religious nuts that constantly make the party look toxic and ignorant.
The Republican Party will linger in whatever putrid form allows it to brim with conspiracy theorists, fascists, white supremecists (or as Trump called them', good people), and religious hypocrites who gladly trade their faith for power.

You people are the one spreading vile lies and hatred to gain power. Such as the "very fine people" lie.

Except the Terms of Service, is a contract.
Great. Then all you have to do is sue them. No need "go after" them with legislation or other government action.

....

I want Freedom of Speech and we are seeing it go away. That the normal protections of contacts are not being enforced, is not a reason to be comfortable with it, but an added concern.

Do you support the moves by the Left, specifically BIG TECH and MSM to deplatform such people, so that their voices and ideas can be silenced?
I support their right to do so. I do, however, oppose some of what they're up to, as in I think it's a bad idea. But no business should be forced to accommodate people or ideas they find repugnant.

if they claim to NOT be editors or content creators, and sign contracts with these people in good faith,

then betraying those people, is morally, and ethically and possibly legally wrong.
I've heard all the excuses. If they are violating contracts, then sue them. But the basic idea that government should force websites to host content against their will is wrong. A real conservative would understand this in a heartbeat - which shows just how far Trumpsters have strayed from real conservatism. The honest among them will admit that they're now authoritarian populists - nationalists who hold the power of government above all else. Not many of them are honest.
So you agree that Parler has legal standing to sue Amazon for violating their contract, and should be compensated?

The far Religious Right, as well far Marxist Left ... Are simply supporters Republicans or Democrats use as boogeymen.
Properly applied, the expanding authoritarian establishment grows, while their supporters never realize neither would survive without the other ...

.
The 'far' right isn't that far anymore. That's the point: this conspiracy batshit has gone mainstream in the Republican party.

All this angst over the 'Republicans' is hilarious, your overlords have bought complete control of the country now in almost every way, no one else to blame, whatever will you leftists do? Will you actually take responsibility for what happens from 2021 forward now that you control everything? I actually can't wait to see it, we all know you'll still be pointing fingers at 'republicans' or 'Rump' when it doesn't quite pan out like you think it will, am I right? lol Bet the 'conspiracies' will be flying around then!

Socialism, Queers, Illegals and Negroes are going to destroy the filthy ass Democrat Party.
And conservatives wonder why they have such a hard time courting black folks and the LGBT community.

The Democrats can keep their filthy ass LGBT queers and their welfare Negroes. That is the kind of scum the party principles attract.
Ladies and Gentlemen.....I give you the modern day Conservative.

There is nothing modern about me. I am old school all the way. Real American values. Stupid American hating Moon Bats like you wouldn't know know what the hell they were if they bit you in the ass.
Oh, you exemplify the modern conservative movement.

No, he doesn't. Modern conservatives are fighting for Freedom of Speech and American Patriotism. Those are the hills we have picked to make a stand on.

Gays and blacks? Hardly mentioned.

If you want to prove me wrong, show me a policy fight that conservatives have made, to.... deprive either of those groups anything.

Beats me. I haven't read the contract. It's certainly possible. But outside such contractual obligations, no person or business should be forced to accommodate others against their will.

I've been hearing this for as long as I could remember and yet the Republican Party endures.
Yeah... until your Orange Baboon-God showed up... if the Republican Party is going to die anytime soon, it will be on a leash, held by Rump.

Your party leaders have long-since had their ball$ cut off by your demigod and he holds them in as much secret contempt as he holds the rank-and-file.

You are chess pieces... and you have been played by a skilled con-man.

Unfortunately, most of you are too myopic or too stupid or too embarrassed or too greedy-for-power-at-all-costs to see it or to admit it.

It is always possible that Republican leadership will find its courage again and abandon this servile devotion to The Baboon, but I'm not holding my breath.
You clearly have me mistaken with someone else, but that I’m glad you got that off your chest.

There is a huge public issue about Freedom of Speech. YOu are dismissing it.

Oldflame just offered a very good and concrete example to define the issue.

If your stated position is really your position, this is where you thank oldflame for the tip and ask for more information so you can make an informed decision.

From what I have seen, Amazon clearly violated their terms of service, and Parler has suffered real harm because of it.

Now the question is, are the enforcement mechanisms working.

They can't show proof of any of it, this 'religious right' bullshit argument has been going on since Reagan, and it still hasn't changed after all of these years, it's the same playbook, the same lame comments ad nauseum. We could go back and look at posts from 20 years ago, and it would be the same pointless drivel they've been spouting for years, and it's the same people making them, they'll never learn anything. As the op stated, if the religious right is on its way out, what will be the next big boogeyman that conspires to keep their utopia from them? Why do they waste so much time arguing against a group that has no power any longer? They're now in control, quit complaining, why aren't they more concerned about their own leaders and demanding that the utopia they were promised gets delivered? Mindless sheep.

Bullies use the targeting of their victims, to unify and solidify their group.

I can see a day when the republican party is utterly powerless and RR churches have been literally boarded up, and they will still be saying the same stupid shit.

But by then, no one will be allowed to point out how stupid it is.

Social conservatism is way more popular than economic conservatism.
Very unfortunate, that.

Weird that working from a cubicle to feed mindless consumerism leaves human beings feeling unfulfilled.
Does it? Seriously, does it? Does it leave human beings unfulfilled? Are you sure about that?

Because I have decades of experience that says otherwise.

Maybe the problem is that people are doing life wrong, rather than that their job is bad.

Explain?

Here, let me give it a whirl.

If you are feeling unfulfilled with your job, there is about a 10% chance the problem is the job, and 90% chance the problem is you.

The problem is less likely that you have a bad job, and far more likely that you are trying to get all of your internal needs in life, met from one single source.

There is no one thing in this world that meet all your needs.

As a Christian, we were always taught in Church, that life must be moderated between the follow.

G-d First.
Family Second.
Work Third.
Friends fourth.
Recreation Fifth.

You can't get all of your needs met by work. Nor family for that matter. Nor friends. Nor recreation.

I've always been fascinated by my Asian friends, because they all.... as in every single one of them I know.... do things differently.

One of them was a full time worker, and a mother, and at the same time, she also went to stage plays and sang songs in front of crowds.

Had another who worked as a computer programmer, but a few times a year, he played violin at parties. People hired him, for not much money, and he would play violin. He wasn't doing it for the cash. It was just another thing, an artistic outlet for him to engage in.

Why do they do things like this? Because no one thing and meet all your needs. If you try and get your spouse to meet all your needs in life, you are going to be miserable, and think you married the wrong person.

If you try and get your job to fulfill all your needs in life, you are going to be miserable, and think you have the wrong job.

If you try and get your friends to meet all your need, you'll assume you have bad friends and try and find other people.

If you try and get recreation to meet all your needs, you will feel empty and miserable. Guarantee it.

And as a Christian, if you try and live life without G-d at all, you will be empty and miserable.

You need moderation. You need all of that. Even if it is going and playing the piano twice a year, at some event... you need more than just a job. More than just one thing.

No one said anything about the Old Testament being the origin of moral common sense. God equipped man to know the difference between right and wrong from the jump.
I don't believe that.

Our sense of ethics and morals evolved as society evolved.
Well, see, that's the problem. You believe wrongly. It's a good thing I'm here to straighten you out.

So when is violence against adults excusable?
