This can't be the first time we've seen green in the pool.
Water treatment is a fairly recent science by comparison.

Not sure why anyone thought that they could treat that much water effectively without building a massive pump complex.
It would have to be huge.

The electric bill alone would be a monster.

Jo

I don't know what all this is about or where it's expected to go.

I was at the mall in 95 or 96 and I remember the water (at least) near the Lincoln Memorial was not that bad at all. I didn't, myself. But I do remember others sitting on the side and soaking their feet in it.

I remember some thinking it was disrespectful.

It was so freaking hot, though.

I wanted to risk it myself.

While "we" know how to prevent algae formation, I would wager that it involves chemicals that might be harmful to either humans or pets, so they didn't go the Full Monte with the prevention stuff. This will be resolved and the pond will be beautiful.

The Trump Organization no longer operates the Wollman Rink in Central Park, as the city cut ties with the company in early 2021. While Donald Trump's company submitted bids to reclaim the contract, the city officially selected a consortium led by Related Companies and CityPickle to run the venue.

One of the easiest and safest ways is to use dye.

It's not cheap, but it works.

It blocks the sunlight from reaching the bottom.

The pool needs patriotic snails.

Honestly, this has to be the most desperate reach there is.

Algae. Gads. I weep for humanity.
Except Cheeto Hitler was the one who bragged about how his renovation of the pool was going to be the most beautiful thing ever, when a lot of sensible people were questioning the rushed job, the no-bid contract to someone who had no experience in large projects, and even the choice of dark blue.

Much like George W. Bush's "Mission Accomplished" banner, sometimes the worst optics are self-inflicted.

Still reaching.

What makes you guys think this was something he could control?

Tell me honestly. To treat the water with chemicals would not only be unsafe for wildlife but for the public as well.

Algae? This struck me as absolute bottom of the barrel stuff. There are more legitimate things to attack Trump for.

Renovating the National Mall Reflecting Pool was a Trump order.

Not only did Trump also screw this project up, but it was yet another overt avenue for Trump corruption....

He hired his buddies to do a shitty job in a no bid contract. Its another example of his incompetence and corruption. If he completed a study, put it into the next budget to fix, hired a competent bidding company, and put actual thought into solving the problem his actions would be iron clad. Instead he looked for a get rich quick scheme to paint a green pool blue which is what a 5 year old would suggest.

Unsafe for animals? Millions of pools are treated successfully. You’d think there would no wildlife left in the country

Those are residential pools, Lesh.

But from what I see, there seems to be no desire left to discuss real issues in this country.

Algae. Utterly pointless.
