I sort of disagree with you on TikTok. Frankly, most of the stuff I see on there is mind-rotting drivel. I think it's literally bad for public health. It's a bunch of highly stimulating, short, nonsensical clips. Think about what that does for your brain. No time to process information. Kills attention span. Whatever you may process, could be total junk. That said, I doubt the Chinese are using it to spy on average joes. What would they get out of it? Kinda funny, though considering that our own government spies on us. I think the whole China angle exists to psychologically mold people to hate the Chinese, in preparation for the government's war plans.

A lot of that but once you get on a certain algorithm, and following the right ones, like a Candace Owens or Joe Rogan etc, you get good information that you otherwise deprived of.

But the most basic definition of a journalist as it pertains the the media is someone who gathers and writes information for a large audience. The talking heads on television are not journalists when they are not doing their own research/information gathering and writing. Or those media figures who have staff to help them research put edit and assemble the information for mass consumption.

Though she has taken some positions I strongly disagree with, she also gets a lot of stuff right. I'm pretty sure Candace Owens does all her own research, editing, and assembly of the information. That makes her a journalist.

Here's another example. A journalist at the NYT had written a story on the dangers of DEI. The powers there killed the story because it offended their mostly 'woke' employees.
