Citizens have been able to legally purchase guns in this country practically from its founding and with much greater ease than we can today yet mass shootings were rare. For the longest time despite having access to purchase a gun the thought of shooting up a restaurant or nightclub much less a church or school was unthinkable to people that has clearly changed. Until people address this shift in or society which now has people committing these acts with seemingly not even a second thought nothing will change.

Americans have always had fairly easy access to firearms. Historically, gun control laws have been based in racism. Despite the prevalence of guns in our society, these frequent school shootings have been a more recent phenomenon. Why is that? What in society has changed?

Guns have been prevalent since 1791. It’s only been since 1965 that gun violence has escalated to the point where people feel they can shoot innocents and not be stopped. For any of the ugliness in the US up until 1965, there was never a mass shooting of innocents. What changed?

Actually I've had shop owners tell me that if someone ever checks that box they will refuse the sale. I've never heard tell of anyone checking it.

And if one were to look/check, you will see the USA is about 81 on the list of 183 shown here. Note also, the method of violent death is secondary to the total number or percentage of populatuion that is victim. Start by getting your priorities and perspectives correct folks!
