The Most Ignorant Line in the History of Man

Now, now, USMB nutters........

You can wait a day or two and you'll have another Obama comment to misrepresent. There is no need to reach back and replay the ones that failed you in the past. Good ol' Mitt and Eddie Munster thought this gem would carry them to the WH. They used it in every stump speech for months. And.......zilch.

I built my business.....but I couldn't have if the roads and bridges and airports that I use weren't there.....if the communications infrastructure that I use daily were less reliable. Being a rational human, I never thought to take those words as an insult to me or my business. I understood them in their full context and agree whole-heatedly.

Major OP fail.

You're a moron. It's an idiotic point. It's like the entrepreneur gets zero credit for busting his ass to build something. NEver mind he's paid taxes out the wazoo. Obama, Liz & Co feel entitled to all of it. No one has misinterpreted Obama's statement. It's pretty clear. If you've got it, he wants it.

I get credit for busting my ass and building something. Nobody has tried to take credit for it. You continue to misrepresent the words.

I pay taxes. But there is no way that the taxes I pay in a year could support the amount of infrastructure that I use in a single day. If not for others also paying taxes.....I'm out of business.

Try to understand something. Anything.

The point remains: those who paid to build our infrastructure and those who pay most to expand and maintain it are those who risk all they have and all they can borrow to actually build something and in doing so create our economic future and JOBS. Anyone who can say with a straight face, "You didn't build that" in an effort to justify his socialist leanings, has not only never built anything but is ignorant as to what it takes to do so.
Trying to spin "You didn't build that" into something other than that is not just disingenuous but smacks of the socialist's fear of having his agenda exposed.
I don't trust a socialist as far as I can throw him and I'm too old to throw anybody.

Ah ... so you imbibe the Kool-Aid liberally and regularly. I must admit I prefer the Scotch. :D

Lol,

Let me see...Your business relies on police, roads, and a stable economy.

WTF do you mean?

And the police, roads and economy all depend on tax revenues which stream from - drum roll, please - businesses.
“After all, the chief business of the American people is business. They are profoundly concerned with producing, buying, selling, investing and prospering in the world. I am strongly of the opinion that the great majority of people will always find these the moving impulses of our life.” - Calvin Coolidge

You might get credit, but the federal government is going to claim the money you made. Because after all you didnt make it.
How much infrastructure do you use in a day? Every day I do not use police, firefighters and most roads. Divvying it up like that makes no sense, which is why it is called a shared good in economics. And it is paid for with taxes generated by businesses one way or another.
Please learn something before you blab off about crap you dont understand.

Only someone who (a) has never experienced what a business owner has and (b) is doing nothing more than playing to a throng that has also never experienced what a business owner has would say such a thing.

Pretty easy to say those words. Pretty easy to scream in agreement. Start a business. Grow it. Live through the sacrifice and the stress and the risk and the daily shitstorm of creating a successful ongoing enterprise, and then get back to me.

Otherwise you're speaking out of pure, abject -- yes, "ignorance" is the proper word.

"You didn't build that". How could Obama have known that those few words would set off a major epidemic of Obama Derangement Syndrome? To bad the disease isn't lethal.

The first outbreak was when Obama was joking about the number of states in the union. But the stupid Obama Derangement Syndrome people have no ******* sense of humor. So they took that comment out of context and have stumbled with it ever since.

Till this comment was made.

You who suffer from ODS, seek help. Or you are gonna waste your lives being stupid.

It's Zeke, toothless stumpbroke of USMB weighing in from the LazyBoy. Hey, Zeke, maybe we should just ignore everything Obama says and just nod agreement.

In addition to its abject ignorance, it's also a statement of intellectual dishonesty. A straw man.

I have never, nor have any of my dozens of business clients, claimed that we do not utilize roads and bridges (a notion insulting by its very existence) to get to work or move materials or anything else.

None of us have ever claimed that people who we hire and employ -- some of whom do more net harm than good -- played a role in increasing the size of the business WE had created.

But that doesn't matter, because intellectual honesty is not a priority here. This is about "you didn't build that, you didn't earn that, give it to us, play by our rules."

At least be honest for a change.

It's a justification for imposing more taxes. The Left feels all money ultimately belongs to the government. A nd now they want more of it. That's it pure and simple.

I look at this whole episode -- from Obama's comments to Warren's "roads & bridges" defense of this comments -- as a turning point, a moment in time when the hard Left came out of the closet (at least somewhat) and began to tell us what it is really after. We've been seeing more and more of it since that time.

Fact check:

‘You Didn’t Build That,’ Uncut and Unedited
Posted on July 23, 2012 | Updated on July 24, 2012
Mitt Romney and his allies have attacked President Barack Obama — often out of context — for saying, “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
American Crossroads posted a 60-second Web video called “Build” that shows small-business owners reacting to Obama’s “you didn’t build that” comment.
The Romney campaign replays Obama saying “if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that” five times in a 15-second video as part of a “petition” drive. It also uses the quote in an email fundraising appeal.
Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts posted a two-and-a-half-minute Web video that juxtaposes the presidentÂ’s remarks against statements made by other presidents on the importance of free enterprise.
There’s no question Obama inartfully phrased those two sentences, but it’s clear from the context what the president was talking about. He spoke of government — including government-funded education, infrastructure and research — assisting businesses to make what he called “this unbelievable American system that we have.”
In summary, he said: “The point is … that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”
In Context
Obama made his remarks at a July 13 campaign appearance in Virginia. The president was speaking against RomneyÂ’s proposal to retain the Bush-era tax cuts and cut federal tax rates an additional 20 percent across the board for all taxpayers.

HereÂ’s what he said:
Obama, July 13: There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we donÂ’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President — because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.

I hate Obama with a passion, but this quote has been used erroneously since he said it. Obama is something of an enigma; he has intelligence, yet he does not speak well off prompter. This ad-lib of his was clear to me when he stumbled through it the first time. He was talking about the infrastructure, not the business.

Either people are far more stupid than I thought (frightening concept right there) or they are lying to use this as political ammo. Obama is an America hating piece of shit, but this is crap. If we cannot have an honest discussion, all is lost. And apparently all is lost.

15th post
Yeah...and God created the earth....take that...where would you be without Him...mr big shot....

"If you've got a business—you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."

Spoken by someone who clearly never built anything.

Whos said that?

Do you have the quote?

I've owned my own business for decades, started from scratch and know damn well all the sacrifices and travails of what it's like being a business owner and growing it. I'll also "get back to you" and say I don't have a damn problem with these words and are in complete agreement with them:
