Most people came here with some type of education or trade. That was part of the deal. They also needed sponsors as to live with them until they became more entrenched in the American Culture. No social programs in that era. Today most of the people coming are not very educated and have little trade experience. Although many are hard workers and willing to learn. Massive social programs available makes it very different.

Folks would certainly need to have some level of mechanical aptitude to be able to work on an assembly line or the steel plant in the 20th century. To be fair though a lot of those folks got the job after they dropped out of the seventh grade let alone after they dropped out of high school let alone if they attended college or not.



A lot of those immigrants that came to America through Ellis island only spoke German, or they only spoke Polish some of them were from Yemen a few of them were Arab who only spoke Arabic. And brother you know they were so many people once they got to New York State or Chicago they were living in small apartments they had to work very hard.

So there we would have perhaps somewhat of a disagreement. But here is the point here is the major difference between now and then. Back in the glorious American past we had much better jobs to offer Americans and immigrants. It’s not so much about the fact that we have millions of immigrants and refugees coming to this country there’s a bigger point the bigger point is our country is not what it used to be. Now today we have lost millions of middle-class jobs so what’s going to happen is we’re going to continue to see Americans working at fast food restaurants….more Walmart mega stores will be built of which don’t really benefit this country that much.

So we’re going to be seeing Americans and immigrants working together at fast food restaurants, at Amazon make in 15 bucks an hour with no union protection they’re gonna be working at Tesla making no good wage with no pension benefits and no real hope no American dream.

Our politicians are not like they used to be. That’s my position on the matter. But either way no matter what we think we have lost millions of middle class jobs and if we don’t get them back the country will continue to go toward a downward spiral. Now you couple our bad economy with the far left and their social justice issues …this can create chaos. It’s bad enough that we have a poor economy it makes things even worse when you have a rich politicians claiming that America is racist.

Yes with regards to the people that are coming some of them could be drug dealers so that’s certainly is an issue. Now we have Americans of all racial and religious backgrounds who sell crack and fetnal to fellow Americans ….and Well we already have the US government legalizing marijuana many states…the US government is a drug dealer that’s a problem. So when we talk about illegal immigrants and the possibility of them bringing in crime we should also keep in mind that the United States government is affectively running a criminal organization with the drug dealing and the and how marijuana is destroying the lives of young people.

I want more Catholics in this country. Because these people brought us the civilized world. Catholicism brought us western European values I want more Catholics in this country brother.

I want any immigrants to come to this country legally, not like now.

In the early 20th century, it took strength to work in industrial employment. The production facilities were also more polluted in breathing ways. Women could not work that. Wrenches could have weighed 20 to 30 pounds alone.

How much of that "labor demand" is for highly skilled requiring years of training + experience ? I once called a job agency, and they said they currently had 183 job openings. I submitted a resume, and could not qualify for a single one of their jobs.

my fellow Democrats here’s the difference between 2023 compared to say the 1920s or the 1950s. The difference is back in those days United States had honor and integrity we had better jobs. Now we don’t have good jobs. Back in the day like at Bethlehem Steel sometime in the 1910s or 1920s my grandfather was trained by a black man. That was in the 1920s. That’s why United States is the best all of integrity and honor. We need politicians in this country who celebrate American history who actually want to help immigrants and refugees like those in the American Past did.

We need another Henry Ford in this country. The rich elites are not like they used to be they don’t provide the types of jobs that people could get right out of high school they could set them for life. If we don’t go back to that we’re gonna be in deep trouble and this country will keep getting worse and worse. Bottom line we had a strong middle class …but now the countries going to get worse as the middle class has less power.

We don't have good jobs today because most of the good jobs have been outsourced to countries with cheap labor or replaced with automation.

Not that I would want to live in the 1920's, 70% of the population lived below the poverty line. As for the 1950's... um, yeah, that was better because the US came out of WWII with the only intact industrial base, and money was flowing in. When the rest of the world recovered, the good times were over.
