No one is saying we shouldn't have immigration laws . But everyone agrees the current system is fucked .
Why is it fucked? I keep hearing this same shit from the left. Our immigration laws are not fucked. They need to be enforced. Period. The laws are fine no need to change them. Enforce every last one of them.
They are a disaster. Where to start?
How about H-1 B visas being abused by companies to hire cheap foreign labor for high end jobs?
Hey! How about we enforce the law and not let that happen! Holy shit! Problem solved!
Reagan gave amnesty which encouraged more illegals. W flat out dropped enforcement altogether. Republicans have long resisted higher fines for those who hire illegals. Clinton passed tough immigration laws and Obama deported more illegals in his first year in office than Trump has. There were 300,000 fewer Mexican illegals at the end of his administration than at the beginning. I agree that enforcement has been piecemeal at best, and depends on the whim of the guy in the Oval Office.
But you can no more get rid of illegal immigration than you can get rid of guns, and the biggest reason is the same for both. There’s too damn many of them. Deporting illegals will cost $300 billion dollars. The logistics and of tracking down, arresting, processing and deporting 11 million people is not to be under estimated.
Last but certainly not least, even if you could wave a magic wand and make all illegals disappear overnight, it would create more problems than it solves, reduce the GDP and create a contraction of your economy. Your can’t remove 11 million consumers from the economy without consequences.
So instead of sitting here and railing against illegal immigration, how exactly do you propose getting rid of illegals. Who will replace them? What happens to the economy when you do?
