I agree, it would be progress if the corporations we bailed out were forced to repay their debt to the government, or better yet, the car industries had all crashed and burned. Then the German car industry would have had a much better market here. Germans are better with their money and industry, given their socialistic systems.

It would be progress if the government would stop bailing out companies in the first place.

Yes, monopolies do not need help. Small business is a whole different story....and we've never bailed out a small local company, in fact, we just ignore them.

There at least ten types of socialism, most were despised by Marx, but Marx created his own type for nations to use to enter communism, he named this prep program Scientific Socialism. That became key for everyone to believe that socialism leads to communism.
The USSR dropped Scientific Socialism a few years after their revolution as useless, in fact the USSR dropped the whole concept of Marx except for the name.
Today most industrial nations including the United States have a mixed economy, capitalism and socialism, but you can still scare the bejabbers out of people with the idea that socialism leads to communism.

The fire department allows its employees to retire at age 50 on a 100% pension. That's one reason many cities are going bankrupt.

Private fire departments are cheaper by several orders of magnitude.
