Consumer confidence plunged when Mr Trump took office. It rebounded in June and July, but has slid again since. In November it fell to the lowest level since June 2022. The tariff war and prolonged government shutdown and have left Americans gloomier about their finances and the broader economy.​

In the first few months of Mr Trump’s second term inflation moved tantalisingly close to the Federal Reserve’s target of 2%. But businesses have begun to pass on the costs of tariffs to consumers. The annual inflation rate was 3% in September, up from 2.9% in August and 2.7% in July. With some firms now paying average import duties of around 10%, inflation is likely to keep climbing in the months ahead.​

I’m pleased the economy is going well, which was Lutnik’s point. He’s a very positive, able, and enthusiastic person which is why he has done so well in life. I’m sorry if you don’t like people like that.

This kind of stuff really annoys me. Whenever the economy explodes under a Republican president, the left immediately disparages the 'greedy rich'. In the 1980s, they called it the "Decade of Greed". Now, it's this K-shaped nonsense. The Marxist leaders would rather have everyone equally miserable (except them) rather than the top third who are very successful.
