As compared to SDS or the Weathermen Abbie and Jerry were tame. What I learned in my youth from the Hoffman/Rubin days was that people could move en masse against an overpowering and truly out of control government that really was becoming a police state. The Democrats under Johnson had lost their minds and government and government institutions had become the enemy. Politicians had become power tripping megalomaniacs.

I learned that if you truly dedicate yourself to a cause as an individual you can create change. I learned that you can seize "power to the people". Many lessons on how to organize a movement and that has served me well all these years as a conservative activist.

Now as the youth movements at the time veered far left and violent I was out of there. SDS and the Weatherman became vicious in their quest for power. What they had called the "enemy" out for, they became. Prairie Fire will tell you all you need to know on why I like many others bailed.

Over the years much like Rubin, I and others became what is known as conservative in today's world. In reality though I am still a classical liberal as are many other conservatives. Just a different label. Because the monikers of liberal and progressive for today's Democrats absolutely do not run with the definition of either of those words.

Democrats have flipped back to the 60's big time. Under the guise of being liberal they are just power grabbing elitists who have no love for the common man but use the masses as a tool to gain control of every aspect of the populace's lives.

It's time for an awakening. It's really time to bring back "power to the people". And this conservative believes we need to "recreate '68".

I read Jerry Rubin's book. I realize what Abbie Hoffman and Rubin were all about.
