The Internet Reacts to Kirk

See, you kind of expose your racism.

You see "merit" as being equivalent to "white".

All DEI does is make up for the privilege that white males intrinsically have by virtue of being white in this culture.

There was a time when black or white if you weren't good enough for a job you didn't get it. What happened to that time?

So in other words merit doesn't exist anymore?
That’s what these Dems are saying. The goal is to get more blacks and Latinos into higher-level jobs and keep more whites out of them - REGARDLESS of the skills, qualifications, and proven experience of individual candidates.

In truth, supporting DEI is what is racist.

Which time was that?

Most of my life, white people got jobs because they knew someone who knew someone, while black applicants were usually sent to the bottom of the pile.

In fact, it still works that way.

For every "Affirmative Action" person I've worked with, I've seen five "Idiot Nephews" (i.e., people who got the job because they were related to the boss, sleeping with the boss, or friends with the boss.)

So please don't give my any crap about "merit", it just doesn't pass the laugh test.

Lisa is upset that now that Jews are considered "White enough", they aren't getting all the benefits of being white.

True, that happens as well as I never said that it doesn't, but it's often in reversal these days.

Really?

I've worked in my field for the last 33 years since I left the Army.

In that time, I've seen maybe three people where race and ethnicity were considered factors in a hiring/promotion decision.

(i.e., it was a promotion/hire that I was interested in, and that person got it instead. I know the workings because I worked there as a Temp or some other capacity.

In 1993, they promoted a woman to be a supervisor before me, despite my previous leadership and logistics experience. She didn't last a year and I ended up getting the job anyway. (A major factor was anotehr female supervisor was suing them for gender discrimination, and they were trying to give themselves cover. The company was majorly dysfunctional, which is why it isn't in business anymore.)

2002, I was passed over for a job for a Chinese National (female). This one was almost justified because she was fluent in Mandarin, and they were looking to increase their Chinese sourcing.

In 2018, I was passed over for a full-time job for a black female who turned out to be utterly useless. But her resume looked good on paper.

Now, I can think of dozens of cases where I've dealt with people who were only hired because they were related to or friends with someone. In one case, the boss gave a job to a drinking buddy. In another case, I had to deal with a salesman who acted like his feces didn't smell because his daddy was the Sales Manager.

I don't think any company sets out to hire unqualified people. Some people look great on their resume. Some people can schmooze their way through an interview and be worthless when they are hired. Some people are actually great employees, but don't do well in certain work environments.

It's very much a mixed bag, and DEI is really the least of our problems.
