So it does matter. Detroit's City Council has begun the process of removing Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office. His offense? He allegedly lied under oath to cover up an extramarital affair.
A decade ago, we were told that when the President of the United States did that sort of thing it was no big deal. But earlier this month Detroit's City Council voted to call for the Mayor to voluntarily resign, for Governor Jennifer Granholm to remove him from office if he doesn't resign and, in case neither occurs, for the Council itself to force the Mayor out. The Council will hold a public hearing on the issue in mid-June.
