Regardless of the imbeciles posting stupidity, thanks for the post miketx.
It raises a concern few ever face or have to think about.
There is a YouTube Channel called "Active Self Protection"
You might look up his channel and post this there and see what he says.
In a situation like this, I would be forced to consider the stranger a threat since his weapon was drawn and in hand.
If he felt threatened enough of the two of you to have his weapon drawn, he should have not approached you to begin with. Trust your instincts.
VERY dangerous situation imo.
What Rambunctious suggested is probably what I would have done. You can't trust people these days. He could have been a psycho, a serial killer, angry at a woman etc etc etc. Your friend took a HUGE chance with his life imo.
If someone is carrying a gun in their hand and you are not at a range, you have to assume something bad is about to happen.
Glad it turned out ok this time. But I would be VERY wary of this person should he show up again. He may have been testing you and or your friend.
Call the local sheriffs office and report the incident. Open carry is one thing. Brandishing is another. For all you know, he could be the subject of a BOLO.

Probably doesn't matter, since you didn't shoot him while practicing how bad ass you are with your .22, mikey. My neighbor opens the gate, drives through then gets out and closes and locks the gate while I wait in the truck. The same guy pulls up again about 15 feet or so from the truck I'm in and gets out to go talk to my neighbor again. This time I become concerned, very concerned and I get out of the truck and watch this idiot. He's carrying a revolver in his hand as he walks up to my neighbor! Stupid SOB! I'm on the passenger side of the truck and have no idea what's going on, but I make sure my coat is moved away and had my hand on my holstered 1911. Idiot couldn't see that. I thought for a second I was gonna have to shoot this idiot. But he just talked and held the gun by his side and finally got back is his truck! We left and I told my buddy that was about the stupidest SOB I've seen in a while. I was really upset by the idiots actions. I was very glad nothing happened, but why on earth would you walk up to a stranger with a gun drawn? WTF?

Walking up to a stranger with your pistol in hand is a bad idea.

Most likely was going to pop your friend and you may not realize it he saw the gun you had and changed his mind.
