The health issue plaguing America today is summed up...

The numbers and the facts are stunning. People are living longer than ever, especially when you adjust for deaths through accidents, drug overdoses and things like that.

The PHARMACEUTICAL industry can take most of the credit. We geezers are being kept alive with countless drugs, taken daily, that compensate for the gradual deterioration of our bodies.

It used to be that you didn't see excessively fat people in their 70's and beyond. They all died of heart attacks and strokes by that time. Now they take pills that keep them alive. You didn't see people living decades after having a heart attack; they were gone within days or within a year or two. Same for cancer. Cancer survivors were rare, not it is common. The drugs are keeping us alive, even as we complain about having to take them, and the cost.

In a capitalist economy, food producers will make whatever sells…whatever tastes good, even if it is unhealthy or even killing us gradually. Donuts, French fries, candy…we love them and eat them until we are sick. The producers don't give a shit, so WE have to give a shit what we put into our bodies.

It is pathetic that many people think it's the government's job to prevent food producers from making stuff that we like, but is unhealthy. **** that. Take care of yourself, and leave the food producers alone.

So then your outlook on illegal drugs is leave those who produce illegal drugs alone correct?

This is what I keep pointing out. Everyone complains about the cost of health care, but they do very little to take care of their health. Instead of politicians arguing over new government programs or subsidies or taxes to make it more affordable, they ought to be telling everyone to stop feeding their face with garbage and get their fat asses off the sofa and exercise once in a while. If everyone took better care of themselves we'd see dramatically lower health care costs, but not politician has the balls to tell people the truth.

The government doesn't tell people not to eat processed foods because Food Inc. is lobbying the government to approve their low nutrition, highly processed foods. They also spend a lot of money on advertising to sell the American people on their cheap, convenient fattening garbage.

Americans have been sold on convenience over nutrition. People don't cook any more. They reheat something that came in a box.

We didn't have a stove for a month, and had to subsist on what we could heat up. We bought "convenience foods". I thought that we would all lose weight because we were eating so much less than we did when we cooked for ourselves. All of us GAINED weight.

Convenience foods are packed with fat and sugar, which adds flavour, and makes them less healthy. Processing removed nutrients and flavour so the fat and sugars are added to help the meals to be more filling and pleasing to the pallet.

Just like illegal drugs that kill people, nobody makes one ingest them. Much like processed foods. Time to force regulations on food corporations perhaps
Since we're dealing with non sequiturs---I suppose you advocate for legalizing murder as well.

An accurate depiction. No arguing against it. But nobody forces people to eat the stuff. Are parents who let their kids consume breakfast cereals full of sugar good parents?

Nope. Not at all. Perhaps though food corporations need to be examined. Or you are good with what they do.
So now the spin is food processors? Gee, a moment ago you were advocating for legalizing dangerous drugs. Have you been tested for Alzheimers?

Are you a parent? Most parents are grateful to get their kids to eat anything for breakfast.

Besides - there are ads on every American TV station on Saturday morning telling kids that Captain Crunch is part of a "nutritious breakfast". They have cartoon characters selling the stuff to your kids.

Canada bans ads from programming aimed at children.

This was informative and entertaining to anyone interested in this topic IMO.

Better than talk radio or NPR. ;)
