The growth of american fascism

We had reason to declare war against Japan, namely: Pearl Harbor.
Not exactly. It was Japan that declared war on the US and because Japan was Hitler's ally, he decided that he "had" to declare war on the US too. Anyway, what else could the US do but reciprocate the declaration of war? The logic is clear. All but two European nations were neutral at the beginning of the Nazi war machine. None of those nations changed their neutral status (not even the US) until the Axis invaded them ….. one by one. Sweden and Switzerland remained neutral throughout the war because they were never invaded.

That’s simply not accurate. Trump campaigned repeatedly on tariffs, economic nationalism, and taking a hard line against Iran. You may disagree with those policies, but voters can’t claim they were hidden. Tariffs were one of the most publicized parts of his platform, and confronting Iran’s nuclear ambitions was a consistent theme dating back to his first administration.

Try fact checking before making such manufactured comments.

I don't disagree with you. I'm just pointing out the liberal logic.

Germany??? The sinking of the Lucitania? As I recall that's a HMS (Her Majesty's Ship) so the United States was not attacked first by Germany.

Not saying I don't agree with the United States being involved in the European part of the war but by liberal logic we were the aggressor against Germany.

You’ve got your wars mixed up. The Lusitania was in WW 1, not 2 and she wasn’t Her (his) Majesty's Ship (HMS), she was Royal Mail Ship (RMS). I won’t deny that FDR was twisting international law into pretzels to support the UK in WW 2, and doing everything he could to bait Germany into giving him a Caussis Belli, but Germany declared war against the USA, not vice versa.

Nice.

I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying that my logic is (or can be) valid only to liberal-thinking people but that it can be considered false by others?

All the arguments I've had with liberals indicate that the one who throws the first punch is the aggressor. The United States threw the first punch at Germany in WWII so that makes us the aggressor in their eyes.

Oh! We did throw the first punch at Iran, via Trump's orders, also even though Iran declared war on us forty seven years ago and have been funding terrorism in the region ever since.

Of course Obama bombing Libya was different in their eyes.

OK, so here's the question. A "declaration of war" is a statement .... in writing? But when we say that an incident is "a declaration of war" is that figuratively speaking or is it a legally binding declaration without it being stated or written into a document?
