For more than 75 years, the fondest dream of Russian strategy has been to divide Western Europe from the U.S. and break the NATO alliance. That is now a possibility as President Trump presses his campaign to capture Greenland no matter what the locals or its Denmark owner thinks.

Mr. Trump on Saturday threatened to impose a 10% tariff starting Feb. 1 on a handful of European countries that have opposed his attempt to obtain U.S. sovereignty over Greenland. No one should underestimate the shock his Greenland project is producing among allies. Along with his tariffs and his tilt toward Russia against Ukraine, he is alienating Western Europe in a way that will be hard to repair. It’s true that Europe may not be in a position to resist if Mr. Trump really wants to go to war over the island. But say good-bye to NATO.

The sad irony is that China and Russia may be the biggest winners, though Mr. Trump justifies his Greenland necessity in the name of deterring both. I’ve said it many times but Xi and Putin have to love Trump. Even the WSJ now acknowledges that Trump is doing the work of our adversaries. I don’t know if the evil that Trump is undertaking can ever be undone. The reputation of the US is shot.

The reputation of the US is now just like Trump’s: Unreliable, lying, chaotic, bullying, and most of all untrustworthy.

Who the **** believes anything Trump negotiates? He makes agreements and disregard them on a whim. Just like he did with his contractors. Just like he did with his so-called trade agreements. Why deal with Trump? He lies and his word is trash.

I have no doubt Trump wants to invade Greenland, whether he does or not, will depend on whether there is a cabinet member that can get through to him, which I seriously doubt.

The premise of your post is faulty. The U.S. and NATO will never break their alliance. The NATO nations would be sitting ducks for China/Russian aggression. Xi and Putin are suffering due to Trump's policies. Russia's economy is circling the drain and Xi's China is not doing much better.

Trump will never invade Greenland because we already have a strong foothold there with a decades long airbase. You're a real loon.

Well back in 2016 when Hillary was running, I was hedging my bets in case she actually won. You know damned well she would have passed another "assault weapons" ban. And having accumulated so much 7.62x39 ammo when it was so cheap, I succumbed to that beauty at my local gun store.

This is the problem of putting a predatory money maker in power. He doesn't understand about global politics, doesn't care about global politics.

He thinks he can bully people. But the US is going to be very alone. You can't project power by being alone. If you can't use European bases, how would you attack the Middle East? Annoy Japan and South Korea, you can't threaten China.
