Who do you think the church was hiding from, from the 4th century up until the Reformation? The true church was never the RCC. During that period of 1260 years the church was led by the Holy Spirit, although they may have had access to the scriptures as well.

The Romans pretty much put an end to Judaism. Of course it has been reconstituted as the Jewish religion today, but it is not Christianity. Christianity doesn't have a Levitical priesthood. Jesus is our 'high priest'.
