The GOAT

The GOAT? Elvis WAS the King of Rock and Roll, but I wouldn't say he was the GOAT. The GOAT vocally may be Elton John from the early 70's to mid 80's. Or possibly Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days. Female singers? Linda Ronstadt gets my vote. I'd also add David Bowie to GOAT singers.

Well, what's funny is that none of those you mentioned are even in Rolling Stone's top 20!

Elvis had a weak band. A string bass competing with 70s' rock sounds or Country rock? No chance no matter how good the vocals or the gyrations.

Elvis is the King. I rest my case.
Elvis has been called the "King of Rock and Roll".
2008 Rolling Stones rated Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles and Elvis (in order) as the top 3 of 10 total.
2023 it is Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke (in order) as the top 3 of 10 total.

Who cares if he wrote the songs. He was a singer and not a song writer.
he wasnt a creator.....Chuck Berry and Little Richard were rock creators.....Ricky Nelson was like Elvis a good looking white kid who can sing but composed nothing...but both had 2 of the best early Rock guitarists...Scotty Moore and James Burton...made them sound pretty good....

I'll add that Elvis was probably THE greatest interpreter of other musicians' songs. And he DID have one of the greatest voices that was ever heard in rock and roll music.
THE greatest interpreter of other musicians' songs?.....that is a matter of opinion....he wasnt the only one out there doing that...
