So the question is, why are US products too expensive? You have to look at what creates the cost. Labor is the #1 factor. So it's the #1 reason why Obama's & Trumps China trade deals would've never worked.
It's also the #1 reason why American manufacturers don't manufacture in the USA near as much as they did in the 70's & 80's.
To solve the problem, one has to address why companies have to pay $15 to $35hr for blue collar workers. The answer is easy. But solving the problem is almost impossible to accomplish because that would take the government forcing lower prices and wages on everything.

Who ever I would support for president would have to address this issue and then at least attempt to gather economic geniuses to come up with a way to get it done. To ignore it will only perpetuate the problem. And within a decade, the problem will continue to push manufacturing out of the country. Allowing automation to take over even the easiest jobs. Which is already happening to millions of jobs.

Automation only requires a mimicking of humans abilities and functions. Computers can be programmed to do just about anything a human can do. From moving objects, joining them together to thinking of solutions.
They just need to be programmed to the specifics of each task.

The end result is an economy where robots and computers do almost everything, leaving the US work force lazy and without incentive. It also means that the only money that too many Americans will have at their disposal comes in the form of welfare. IE Yang's idea of a guaranteed income (Those $1,000 checks)

So unless the government, with the help of those who run the economy and the corporation force, this country into a massive deflation cycle that leads our economy, wages and prices back to levels around the 1960's, the GenZ's and their kids and their kids, in this country will not be producing enough to keep the economy from dying a miserable horrible death.

Can anyone else (that isn't a surface level thinker) come up with a solution?

50+ years of failed trade policy has caused this.

Nixon opened China for trade with the idea if we exported capitalism to China they would end up overthrowing their communist government. Instead China has successfully exported Marxism and communism to America. Corporations now willfully enforce CCP censorship to their own employees and US citizens.

50+ years of idiotic trade deals that fucked this country over and shipped jobs overseas. Failing to use tariffs, failing to keep manufacturing jobs here, all thanks to politicians who sold this country out while they pocketed millions for themselves. People like Biden.

Since we do not fully understand how human function so well, no one yet knows how to program computers to be able to do much of anything still.
Computers are really, really bad at almost everything.
They can infer or imply, and require absolutely specific programming.
They do not have vision as we do, and have to be provided with some sort of sensor input, that they have to calculate from.

Bingo! Everyone remembers Nixon as the Watergate President. Watergate was a joke. What Nixon and Kissinger did opened the China Pandora's box on the world. It wasn't all his fault, a succession of unwitting Presidents just kept incubating and feeding the beast. And now, here we are with China controlling our government leaders and our corporations.

Sure, computers with vision....do you want pickles on that burger.

The reason production worked in the USA in the past and stopped working around the 80's, is corporate greed mongering.

You only need ONE top corporate level official for every 1000 employees. Most companies have 5-10 or more.
MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of wasted money on useless, ineffectual slackers in 3 piece suits, doing nothing but making a free paycheck.

Now if a company has more than one head office location, thats different, as long as they are managing 1000-5000 people PER TOP CORPORATE EXECUTIVE.

Companies figured out that the more useless, needless, wasteful management you have, especially at the executive level, you suck up most of the companies budget.....and whats left (if anything) is trickled down through other layers of corrupt management before it gets to the employees........the ones who ACTUALLY DO THE WORK!

This is what happens when businesses are not regulated and have clear, specific laws written to protect employees and consumers alike.

Plastics manufacturers in the USA can make all this shit-tastic plastic crap you find in the dollar stores, and still pay a living wage to American employees, MINUS the corrupt corporate level of "management".

Sam Walton was a good example of this.
Sam Walton created WalMart to sell as many American made goods, made by American employees, to American consumers.....more emphasis on AMERICAN products, less emphasis on OVERSEAS products.

But when Sam died, his bastard kids decided to go the way of TRUE EVIL, and be the catalyst for this regime of massively, heinously overpaid flotsam of corporate management, in order to CHARGE the same price for products......but have them made in CHINA for pennies a day, since China pays their employees shit. So the over stuffed, over paid executive level gets MORE money......NOT their employees!!

End illegal immigration. That will help wages increase to proper levels. The illegals depress the wage levels for the blue collar workers.

End idiotic environmental regulations that drive costs up while doing nothing productive.

End trade with China outright. Ban anything coming in from China.

That's a start.

Companies invest in automation when it's feasible. When it costs a company less money to invest in a machine than a human that's exactly what they do. As wages increased and automation became cheaper, humans were replaced by machines.

As far as foreign made products, nobody pays attention to where they are made and some don't even care. So if I were President, I would institute a policy where every product made in the US has a large emblem on the package stating so. For Amazon and other online companies, they would have to advertise where the product they are selling is made. Nobody really knows until the package is delivered to their home.

As for myself I would gladly buy domestic made products over foreign even if it costs a little more. The problem is I have no major stores in my area and use Amazon quite a bit. In the 70s the motto was buy American or bye-bye America. We need the government to bring that motto back.

A product's cost is based on how much an individual is willing to work for.

Imagine you have people working for $100 a month. Then when you manufacture your product, when you ship your product, when you sell you product, every step of the way you're paying towards that $100 a month.

That $100 a month moves to $1000 then all labor costs have increased. Those people who are earning need to be able to afford housing, food and other costs.

China is getting more and more expensive. From 2011 to 2018 their economy doubled, product prices doubled, wages doubled etc etc. China is outsourcing things and moving to higher level jobs.

Germany knows that things are more expensive. So it educates its people to make high quality goods that cost a lot of money to produce, but have far less competition in the world, and people are willing to pay much higher prices for a BMW than for a US car.

To note.........Trump had his products produced in China.

Amazingly (not really) the cost of "Shareholder value" is never figured into these equations. That is, those who have absolutely nothing to do with the creation of a product insisting their take increases year after year.

When it doesn't they dismantle what is otherwise a profitable business or send it overseas to see to it that "shareholder value" increases year after year.

Shareholders do all that? Funny. I'm a shareholder and I don't have that kind of power.

Unfortunately we have a consumer problem. That is to say, the consumer will buy the cheapest product available and not care where it's made. This started back in the 80's during the recession. Since that time, we gave up our desire for quality and placed our priorities on price. There are twice as many things to buy today than years ago so we need to stretch our dollars as much as possible.. Back then stockholders were basically the well off. Today, nearly everybody is in the market with their retirement plans.

When it comes to our national economy, we had three choices:

*Cheap products.
*Good paying manual labor jobs.
*Good return on our investments.

You can't have all three, so we collectively chose cheap products and good investment returns.

Republicrats did this. Trumps China trade deal, same as Obama's was useless. And quite frankly, retarded. Because it doesn't address what causes the trade deficit. The fact that we outsource so much (creating the trade deficit) is only the symptom to the actual problem
The real problem is our over inflated USD, huge overhead in wages for US manufacturers, is what drives the trade deficits.
The solution is to equalize our currency and economy to match our largest competitor. A middle class wage in China is only about $20,000 per year. $20,000 per year here is a poverty wage.

The republicrats screwed the pooch with our economy. Inflation since 1913 has grown almost 2900%.

Just buying American isn't going to solve the problem. It would help. But just buying American isn't going to solve the problem as to why it's so expensive. A HUGE amount of the purchase price stems from wages it takes to manufacture anything. This includes water from the local municipality to the convenience crap we buy from Amazon.

If middle class Americans could afford to live comfortably on $15,000 a year, then that would mean that companies didn't have to pay employee's so much. Which would bring manufacturing back to the USA. Because it would be cheaper to manufacture here, instead of China. If the wages were equalize, it actually cost more to manufacture in China because of the shipping costs.
