He was married to her for over 1/2 a century. He was an artist, albeit not quite commercially successful , yet managing to win every contest he entered.

They lived an impoverished existence, out in the forgotten rural parts of America
The house they owned was a good century and 1/2 old, all manner of problems

But then she fell ill, and the long decline followed, think about being your other 1/2's caregiver here. And then the furnace crapped out, so they were left with only a wood stove, and cold showers when the water was unfrozen and worked....

He kept her on a sofa by the stove, kept it running all night while he slept on the floor next to her like a dog beside her

He bathed her in a small tub , with water he warmed on that stove

The night she passed, he held her hand whispering they'd meet again

This is a real man imho

Teach this in school

Thats just a good, decent human being.
Yes & thx Bacon dude

Yet another story from the heart of Americana

When they ask, who are we?

When they ask, where have all the good men gone?

I'd like these sorts pointed out.....

A real man would fix the furnace. Mine crapped out over a year ago. I could fix it, but I installed a separate hot water heater long ago and a pellet stove to support the wood stove. Screw the furnace.

Poverty in rural America isn't anyone's fault Grumbly one

It exists

city folks are often taken back at it all
