Yes he exists, and he isn't some evil looking 2 horned devil - rather he comes as an angel of "light". He tries tempting us.. deceiving us.. in all ways possible. Trying mostly everything in his ungodly power to keep us away from the the truth of Jesus. Because once we know the truth, that's it. Because when we start seeking Jesus first, love never fails.

Who is Satan?

Question: "Who is Satan?"

Answer: People's beliefs concerning Satan range from the silly to the abstract—from a little red guy with horns who sits on your shoulder urging you to sin, to an expression used to describe the personification of evil. The Bible, however, gives us a clear portrait of who Satan is and how he affects our lives. Put simply, the Bible defines Satan as an angelic being who fell from his position in heaven due to sin and is now completely opposed to God, doing all in his power to thwart God's purposes.

Satan was created as a holy angel. Isaiah 14:12 possibly gives Satan’s pre-fall name as Lucifer. Ezekiel 28:12-14 describes Satan as having been created a cherubim, apparently the highest created angel. He became arrogant in his beauty and status and decided he wanted to sit on a throne above that of God (Isaiah 14:13-14; Ezekiel 28:15; 1 Timothy 3:6). Satan’s pride led to his fall. Notice the many “I will” statements in Isaiah 14:12-15. Because of his sin, God barred Satan from heaven.

Why did Satan think he could defeat God?

Question: "Why did Satan think he could defeat God?"

Answer: It’s hard to imagine a being who was as close to God as Lucifer (Satan) was coming to believe that he could even do battle with God, much less defeat Him. Even the most depraved mind should be able to see that the creature cannot possibly contend with the Creator. And yet Satan attempted to dethrone God and strives to this day to defy His authority, thwart His plans and harass His people.

Perhaps part of the explanation is that pride, the worst and most evil of all sins, has blinded Satan to reality. Two Old Testament passages (Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:11-19) furnish a picture of Satan's original position and the reasons for his loss of that position. They tell of an exalted angelic being, one of God's creatures, who became too proud and ambitious. He determined to take the throne of God for himself. But God removed him from his position of great dignity and honor. As a result of his original status and authority, Satan had great power and dignity. So great is his strength that Michael the archangel viewed him as a foe too powerful to oppose (Jude 9).

Satan's influence in worldly affairs is also clearly revealed (John 12:31). Satan is also extremely intelligent. Through his intelligence he deceived Adam and Eve and took over their rule of the world for himself (Genesis 1:26; 3:1-7; 2 Corinthians 11:3). His cleverness enables him to carry out his deceptive work almost at will, although his power is subject to God's restrictions (Job 1:12; Luke 4:6; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8). But he does have certain victories—although within the boundaries God has set for him—and perhaps these victories allow him to continue the illusion that he can have victory over God Himself.

Why is an all-powerful god unable to defeat satan (Remove him from influence)?
The omnipotent one seems to prefer to keep him around. According to some religions he (the devil) even has a house for dwelling in after one passes from this earthly existence, just as god does.

I don't believe in God or the Devil. At least not in the traditional sense. I sometimes think that there is an order to the universe, but God and Satan are comical characters made up by bronze age savages, not thinking people.

All that said, reading the bible (and unlike a lot of "Christians", I actually have read the bible) I'm having a hard time figuring out which one was "evil".

The God of the Bible kills babies as messages to their parents. He demands sacrifices of children as tests of loyalty. He kills people for some of the pettiest reasons, like putting up your hand to keep his magic box from falling off a cart or sending bears to maul children for mocking a prophet's baldness. (He's not just the hair club president, he's also a client!)

How many people does Satan kill in the Bible?

Ten.

He kills the 7 sons and three daughters of Job by causing a roof to collapse in on them. And why did he do it? Because he had a bar bet with God whether he could get the righteous Job to curse God.

I see Satan(lucifer/devil/beelzebub/etc) as an excuse for a man of faith to behave immorally and then be able to tell people "The devil made me do it"

Besides wasn't "Satan" another one of those things Christianity borrowed from another religion like Zoroastrianism?

No worries, I'm not taking offense at all, not a problem.

My thoughts come from what I read in His Word. As for saying my thoughts in my own words, here you go:

God is able to defeat Satan at anytime. And one day He will be, it will be done. The way we are now in the world - will be no more, there will be a new heaven, a new earth. Every tear will be wiped, all things new. And Satan gone forever. Praise Jesus.

Until then we are subject to this frustration. The reason? I believe it is partly because love is not something that can be forced. Love is a choice. We choose to "love" the unlovable and God teaches us how.

However, we have this sin nature against the very One who created us. Sometimes we think we know better than Him, which is utterly ridiculous as we don't know squat and all only learning as we go. Our tendancy toward self righteousness and vanity in the human race is one of our own worst enemies. It gobbles us up and most of the time we do not even see it. Satan thought he knew better than God too. Ha!

Thanks be to God so much for His Sacrifice for our sins.

The world is God's, all of creation is Gods, we are made by Him.

God created us, loves us - made a way to help us and redeem us through His Sacrifice. Yet too many will spit in His Face and falsely accuse him and say they don't believe Him.

Thing is, MM, I can talk up and down and all over the place but that's not what is going to give you faith or understanding in God. Faith comes by hearing the message through Jesus Christ. It's going to be between you and Him ultimately, and anything I say...you shouldn't trust anyhow and study for yourself and ask God yourself.

When you start reading His Word and start asking Him, even with a sliver of faith "Are you real,God?, Why are things the way they are? Is Jesus the only way?" ...We'll He'll know if you are sincere or not. He knows when you are truly seeking and HIS PROMISE is that He will reveal Himself to you. He's God, He knows everything. We cannot hide from God.

I could go on and on about my "thoughts". But what difference do they make? Will you believe me personally? No. Not until you know God yourself, and I mean "know" Him.

He made the way. He IS the way. He is the ONLY way.

John 14:6

The devil I believe exist is just another name for "a man that enjoys devious and ill-contneted deeds." Or dangerous wild animal that attacks humans

In other words--any villain or vicious creature. I don't believe in an non-human/animal entity that can be called "the Devil"

Damn, you ruined a perfectly good PoD quote by getting all srs.

In all honesty, I see him as more a savior of humanity than any other character. Through his cunning, he tricked Adam and Eve to eat of the fruit of knowledge, thus beginning mans intellectual growth. He weeds out those weak in faith, thus ensuring a higher quality of souls in heaven, he strengthened the resolve of the Nazarene by testing him, and he will bring about the great washing of all Yahweh's creation, cleansing it all back into the paradise it was supposed to be.

Christians should really be thanking the Devil for his hard work, and dedication. He's very misunderstood.

As a Christian I believe the devil exist and his best friends are lefts, liberals, communists and socialists.

He is the Father of ALL lies. He will be sooo deceptive, that when he comes as the anti-Christ, the Lord has promised us to cut short his days, lest all fall for his deceptions.
If you are spiritually, invincible, there are books that you can read to find out more. There is some interesting origins of "mixed creatures" and also of "evil spirits". Demonic possession is real, though most of us are blissfully ignorant of how that works. Be careful though, evil works best as an unknown, and evil will try to prevent you from learning more.

Gotta type quick here and go, but just wanted to share this. It was awesome as I was reading Our Daily Bread today and these verses were referred to. There is None like Him, He can do anything at at anytime. God is awesome!

Isaiah 40:25-31

25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?

28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

3. "Sympathy for the Devil," by The Rolling Stones.

Don't be misled by the title; this song is "The Screwtape Letters" of rock. The devil is a tempter who leans hard on moral relativism — he will try to make you think that "every cop is a criminal / And all the sinners saints." What's more, he is the sinister inspiration for the cruelties of Bolshevism: "I stuck around St. Petersburg / When I saw it was a time for a change / Killed the czar and his ministers / Anastasia screamed in vain."
