The Democrat's and Some on the Left's problem w/Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

My problems with her is that she doesn't seem particularly knowledgeable. Now, that's true of a lot of Congress-critters, but she has this lovely habit of saying really stupid things.

My other problem with her is that she's from the Crazy Bernie-Bro faction of the party that thinks Socialism is a good thing.

To whit,

I see Capitalism like a pit bull. It has its uses under the right circumstances.

The Republicans want to let it run amok in the neighborhood, and it it mauls your kid, than it's your own fault for getting in its way.

The Bernie Bros like AOC want to take it out into the woods and shoot it like Old Yeller.

I want that dog on a leash with a muzzle and sent to obedience school.
Nice analogy I like it and may steal it.

Can you cite an example of something that she said that wasn't particularly knowledge-based? Any stupid things she's' said?

Lastly, can you cite any anti-Capitalist quote from her?

I really have much better things to do than prove water is wet... but here you go.

Earlier this week I had an exchange w/a fellow USMB poster I believe is generally on the left and they expressed having a problem w/Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

However, when prompted to get to the bottom of their reasons, the response was nothing more than fluff.

Personally, I love everything she stands for and she represents her constituents well, and they support her.

This is to/for those of us on the left, including Democrats, what, if any, are your problems w/Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?

Let's get to the bottom of if.
I generally have no problem with AOC.. She is fighting a good corner...

I would suggest instead pointing Sweden or Norway for solutions she should point to Germany... Germany has a great economy and all the social programs of Sweden.. They are also 4 times the size of Sweden and considered the leaders of Europe.. They are an easier sell to the US people...

Americans are extremely simple-minded, contrary to what they see themselves to be.

I suspect Germany is associated w/the Holocaust in most of their minds.

Interesting idea though, you may be on to something.

I have a huge problem with her virtually ignoring the asian community when elderly asians were being attacked on a regular basis to the tune of an astounding 3800 attacks. As far as I could tell, she made two tweets about asian hate in Feb and March of last year and then never brought it up again. I find this quite troubling since her district in queens has a huge asian community, but also because of who she is. The optics of this are horrible. You know if elderly hispanics were being targeted she'd be screaming at the top of her lungs 24/7. This reeks of favoritism to me from someone is supposed to be the most progressive politician in congress.

She's as racist as anybody.

Nothing stands out as being particular dumb, radical or anything negative.

As for your second link, I can't believe you're peddling claptrap like that. You're better than this Joe.

Bottom line, she's not said anything dumber than your favorite politician. Her quote on personalities stands out to me as being relevant to you.

I hope you reconsider.

This is fair criticism.

You are shouting at the rain. Try it and see if it stops raining. Being born into poverty isn’t a child’s fault even if you want to blame the parent. Half or SNAP (food stamps) recipients are kids. Children. What do you do? Cut out their $8 food allowance? 92% of SNAP are families with kids, the elderly, or disabled living in poverty in the US, all citizens (tiny fraction legal immigrants - no illegals) and since 1996 have strict work requirements.

Are you really so pissed at these people (old, sick, and children) you want to cut off $8 because you think it keeps their care takers from working? I don’t think you look at data. I think like most republicans you hold an emotional position that everyone poor is lazy, living a lavish government supported life and should be able to lift themselves out - not supported by data.

Someone born into poverty, raised in poverty, and in a country that thinks it’s the most opportunistic place on the plant will likely stay in poverty. 40% of kids spent at least a year in poverty. That’s a systemic problem resulting from 90% of families having virtually no wealth and unable to survive a family emergency like unemployment or health crisis.

Why should you pay for those people? Because most of us would pay for you if you were born there. Luckily you weren’t through no effort of your own. Or luckily your parents were the minuscule number who live in poverty and get their kids to college.
I ll keep shouting because throwing money at the problem isn’t fixing it.

Her constituents love her and that's all that matters.

My biggest problem with AOC is we both have degrees from the same University and she devalues mine each and every time she opens her mouth. How she ever graduated with a degree in Economics and yet is so utterly clueless about basic Economic theory utterly mystifies me!

Deep thoughts from Jack Handy. You get the ostrich head in sand award.
Ditto. Democrats have been throwing money at the problem for my entire life (41 yrs) and nothing has changed. Single motherhood rates are actually rising. Welfare isn’t the answer. Too bad you’re too stupid to see that. I refuse to support anyone from any party that just throws money at those who make bad decisions.

You don’t address any of the issues. It’s so typical that as I lay out a very detailed fact based discussion of our situation you’ve chosen to virtue signal you ass into a corner. Who fucking cares what you feel? There are 10M children in poverty right now and 20M that will be in and out over the next 2 years. A lecture from you does Jack shit.

And why is that? Bad decisions. So you ll throw money at it and they ll still be in poverty. How about people don’t have kids if they can’t afford them Vs relying on the Govt aka the taxpayer to bail them out. Responsibility is on them not on me. Want to Build Back Better, then throw money at finding a solution. I d rather pay people not to have kids than pay them to have them and have the cycle keep repeating itself. This is why you are a failure as a person and as a C Level executive. You just don’t get it.
