The hard right would switch from primaries to caucuses in districts where they could get a less popular candidate as the nominee. In Suffolk they were able to dissolve the GOP committee just to try to get the candidate they wanted. There is a growing divide in Virginia between the state GOP and the Liberty/MAGA/Freedom Caucus factions. The new law effectively forces the GOP to have primaries except in special elections. That in turn keeps the GOP from ginning up those fake Critical Race Theory type controversies that are the hard right's bread and butter.
