A presidential pardon is not necessarily the best legal position to be in. It makes perfect sense to me as to why Biden pardoned his son..... He was at the point where he was almost definitely going to do jail time. However I could still happen.
Having given up the fifth amendment and the right to plead silence in the face of incrimination he now becomes a target for all kinds of probes.
A Congressional committee can now dig into his past absolutely tearing his life to shreds and demand answers about all kinds of acquaintances and connections that could previously be protected by the 5th. Now depending on who those people are that could put Hunter in a pretty bad position where he might actually be better off in jail.
If he lies and gets caugh the pardon does not cover that.
Same has to be said for anyone else who receives a pardon. It's probably the reason why Adam Schiff rejected Biden's offer.
