The Cost of Toppling: Khaddafi vs. Saddam

A little perspective, Clinton's bombing of Yugoslavia to deflect attention from his peculiar sexual adventures cost about 7.5 Billion. Give 'em Hell Harry Truman's mismanaged adventure in Korea without congressional approval cost the lives of 35.000 Americans in three years and we ended up with a humiliating truce and right back where we started.

We aided a people against a dictator. A dictator that had American blood on his hands. They have taken him out. It is up to Libyans as to what Libya will become now. Should they have ten years of constant intercine warfare, then they will have had it as good as Iraq has had it under our occupation.

bullshit. we stuck our big nose in where it didn't belong.

Of course, that was after we gave him what was it, 30 billion? I forget...

Under the Obama Administration the cost of toppling Khaddafi was...

  • $805.5 Billion in Military Operation to Date

Uhm, yeah, not only was Herr Bush n Doktor Cheney reckless, spending like DRUNKEN sailers, but they were DANGEROUS to national security.

Utter, total and complete lack of leadership under those 2 morons.

The facts continues to bear this out time and time again.

It will be years before we know the true cost of Bush/Republican Folly.

Tens of thousands of Americans were wounded in Iraq. This could cost the country trillions. The cost of a single paraplegic is in the millions over 40 or 50 years. Unless Republicans decide to "let them die".

So you're ok with pumping millions into welfare queens and irresponsible 40 year olds who made dumb choices...............but not with paying for wounded vets. Got it.

Not me idiot moron. Republicans.

Searching for ways to cut back on spending and reduce the nation’s humungous budget deficit, one of the leading lawmakers in Congress is proposing to raise health costs for many military retirees.

One could would have happend without the other

AND the lives of American soldiers.

Agreed.
But the focus of the OP seemed more on the money.
:eusa_eh:

That's the only thing "let him die" and "corporations are people my friend" Republicans understand.

"Let him die" is what was being chanted by all of you bleeding heart libs.
How's it feel?
:eusa_eh:

And "corporations are people" was passed by this administration's SCOTUS.
:eusa_shhh:

:eusa_eh:

I'm so glad you had the sense enough to use the word "seemed" as I emphasized BOTH the money and the cost of lives.

Reread my OP again.

You CHOSE to focus on the money.

Telling, actually.

Coming from someone that has taken every opportunity to bitch about how Bush kept Iraq "off the books", it's really not that "telling" at all

:eusa_shhh:

Ummmm, I hope I'm not stating the obvious...but....Libya was a NATO operation. Sooooo
The overall cost is probably the same (for the same time period) and seeing's how we support NATO with boatloads of cash we are probably about the same amount. But that would be like, you know, honest and all that shit.
How quickly the worm turns.

Not long ago to CON$ it was "Pharaoh Obama’s Libyan war." of course that was after they condemned him for inaction in Libya. Now suddenly the CON$ say it's NATO's war, but when Obama made the transition of the control of the war to NATO, the CON$ said Obama was still in charge. Of course, that was while things were not going well for the rebels. But now that the rebels have won the CON$ put NATO back in charge.

If you knew anything about Iraq you would know the Iraqi people would NEVER speak out against Saddam..

For 25 years you know what the consequences of speaking out against Saddam was??? you go to prison and your wife and children get raped in front of you while you're forced to watch, then you go to underground prison while your wealth is absorbed and your family thrown on the streets...

The notion of an Iraqi revolution is lunacy - it would never of happened under Saddam...

Saddam made an example out of anyone that was heard uttering a negative word about him - thats what he used his republican guard for. They rolled around like the SS...

Didn't he get 100% of the vote in free and fair elections?

Would I lie to you?

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Saddam 'wins 100% of vote'
Iraqi officials say President Saddam Hussein has won 100% backing in a referendum on whether he should rule for another seven years.

There were 11,445,638 eligible voters - and every one of them voted for the president, according to Izzat Ibrahim, Vice-Chairman of Iraq's Revolutionary Command Council. The government insists the count was fair and accurate.

The Constitution requires only two things of the federal government, "To provide for the common defense" "To promote the general welfare". If you consider the old Cold War cost in the last forty years of the US's responsibility for NATO you could say we got a raw deal when we spent a Hundred Billion dollars to take out one middle aged tyrant. How many other tyrants does the current left wing administration have targeted? Maybe we will break even if we don't surrender to China in the mean time.
