Track and Field...otherwise known as Athletics

I enjoy watching most sports, but none more than track and field.

100m prelims on right now for the women.

I was always a sprinter as a kid. Was on the relay team and cross country team.

It is the purest of the athletic sports, though I would suggest greco-roman wrestling also qualifies for this label.

Keep your eye on the Canadian 4x100 mens relay team. We may get the gold, we will see.

yes.l kind of the "core" olympics. enough with the games. who can run fastest and jump highest?

the ol' lady watches more than i do.

"i'll be outdoors, mom. call me if our girls are playing beach volleyball!

Back in the day I used to watch that with my daughter who participated in T&F on the HS level....No more, I just can't support a .org (or the network that supports them) that made such a mockery of a once great event.

You can watch for the both of us.

This post is completely subjective.

One of faves, shelley ann fraser is on.. her last games (before retirement?).
I think I saw she's dyed the hair green/yellow/black (jamaican flag?)

Althou I really love this blue look, (earlier on in season?)

I really hope uk's dina asher does better this time.. she was flipping 8th last year.. so can she take the better steroids or whatever, to wake up a bit.(she's 28 now, so over the hill in sprinting terms.)

Oh, and of course Sha'Carri Richardson is there.. with the great 10.65 time last year.. can she hit 10.5 this time?? No idea.. prob fav to win I guess.

Will Great Britain and France continue to dominate matters ?

Looks that way as the US Fatty people continue to under perform -- by around 400% compared to these two Sports Elite countries , based on simple performance stats versus population .

She is a phenomenon at 1.52 cms ( 5feet).
Total respect because of the longevity of a super successful career .
However , Sha'Carri Richardson looks a great favourite , if she does not have one of her slow starts .
If she breaks near level she will win .
Our Dina Asher Smith could get Silver as she knows how to peak exactly at the right time . And Daryl Neita also continues to improve and though I think she is likely bronze medalling at best she has had a wonderful season so far .

BTW
Do not miss The Hodge in the 800 metres and schoolgirl Phoebe Gill in the same race .

I wish I had seen Yusuf Dikeç shoot. I'm pretty sure he's my 2024 Olympic hero...

The chill Turkish shooter gave us the best meme of the Olympics

"Turkish shooter Yusuf Dicek showed up to the function looking like Turkey literally just called him today to compete because they knew he was in Paris eating croissants in a nice bakery. He looks like your local florist who somehow knows high-level martial arts and stopped a robbery three weeks ago..."

I watched the final, Sha'Carri did get a slow start.. she was playing catchup after that to Julien Alfred. I don't even know where Santa Lucia is on the map..
Dina didn't qualify for the final, so boo hoo... :boohoo:

Hmm, well a slowish start maybe, but they are now no2 in the medal table, with 14 golds at this point.. haha but guess who's beating them? their nemesis big bad China!(16 golds)
Making the US 2nd best country in the world...

My point is that when you look at Golds , or , better still , total medals , it is France and Team GB which are way ahead of China and the US --- medals per thousand population .

Dina had a very poor 100 metres semi final race . Imho, she is still a yard faster than Daryll Neita who finished fourth in the final . Dina at her best runs 10.85+ which would have given her silver .
But she didn't !
I think Dina is stronger in the 200 metres and both our two top girls will go very close to Gold . However, if Shereka Jackson is entered , silver will be their limit.

Did you see Femke Bol last night --- my number one favourite ?
Astonishing .
The battle in the 400 metre hurdles between her and McLaughlin - Levrone will be epic . Two incredible " once in a lifetime"talents in the same race .

It is far from over. China will likely not get any gold in track and field and the US will get a lot more

Hmm, well I hope you're right, as they say in Topgun, ".. there are no points for second place", Mr Harpy...
Haha :abgg2q.jpg:

It is no 19 China and 18 US with track and field just getting going

hey, yes I did catch Femke in the 4x400m, she was over-taking the gb/us teams, timed her finish perfectly.. I actually felt I think joy as it happened.. proving I still have something in me (love?) for europe, hasn't been completely beaten out of me by the nazi government, yet.
I really like Lieke Klaver, very pretty dutch girl:

It's always a bonus after the event to see the dutch girls kissing and hugging!
Same with the women's football, haha, when they score.

Yes, re medals, I think team GB are prob over-achieving regarding overall number, so well done them.

When are they gonna do them naked like the true heritage of the Olympics?
