There have been several movies with this title. This is a Sci Fi movie made in 2016. It's available on several streaming serviceq in addition to Prime.

A professor of linguistics, Louise Banks (Amy Adams) leads a team of investigators when gigantic spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors. Hoping to unravel the mystery, she takes a chance that could threaten her life and quite possibly all of mankind.

The aliens have nothing in common with humans. Physically they look something like an octopus floating around in a non-oxygen atmosphere. Their method of communications is almost inconceivable. The challenge Banks faces is communicating with these strange being. The government wants to know why their purpose in being here and where they come from. If nothing else, you will gets an appreciation of just how hard it would be to establish communications with aliens who have nothing in common with humans.

The impending military actions ends the teams efforts and war seems inevitable. Through a of bit of time travel, the day is saved and the aliens fly away. Much of the ending is not well explained. This is where the movie fails in my opinion. The director tries to reveal too much in the closing minutes and the questions raised in the movie such as the purpose of the alien's visit, where they came from, and what was the help the aliens sought from humans were left unanswered.

If you are a science fiction fan that prefers thought provoking movies over action adventure, you might like this movie. However don't expect this movie to answer all the questions it raises.
