Yes they did. They even created a map of the route. The primary place to buy slaves was Timbuktu. Then head North. The map, discovered by Portugal, is how Europeans discovered they could buy African slaves. They just built ships to sail past the N. Africans in the Atlantic and immediately found tribes happy to trade slaves.

Fakes news. Keas has maps of the Arab trader network; it reached all the way to the Gold Coast, both by land and sea, in his excellent book on the Gold Coast in the 16th Century.
