“In a rare and somewhat frightening bout of honesty, California Democrat Ted Lieu made two stunning (or maybe not) admissions on the air recently 1) that he would love to control speech and 2) the only thing stopping him from doing so is that danged US Constitution.”

That Danged Constitution - Victory Girls Blog

There isn’t a Leftist alive who doesn’t want to control speech.

They are banning people from public platforms en masse for not agreeing 100% with them...

I don't think that at this point not admitting it is an option. They want to create the hive mind.

This is what Lieu said:

"The First Amendment prevents me from doing so. And that’s simply a function of the First Amendment. But I think over the long run, it’s better the government does not regulate the content of speech. I would urge these private sector companies to regulate it better themselves.”

I would remind you the Bill of Rights was drafted by "liberals" and that it is and are "liberal" courts that are the most ardent supporters of free speech and the free press. It is the right that advocates for press suppression and engages in anti-press rhetoric. Look at the rightist posts on this board.

History is filled with those in power suppressing speech. Most of them involved murdering a large segment of their population to keep it enforced.

A. He’s supporting the suppression of speech.

B. The Founding Fathers are the anti Democratic Party of Liberty and God haters today.

Two things the constitution stays in the way of.

the democrat party of today is very much like the Third Reich or Mao's China. Suppression of all speech except that which is approved by the government and destruction or elimination of all people who challenge the leaders.

America better wake up, our democratic republic is very fragile right now. If Trump had not won, it would be over.

Democrats will say whatever they think will best cover their true intentions.

I'll remind you that the classical liberals of the time of the founding have no philosophical relationship whatsoever to the idiots currently using the tag, who are essentially European-style socialists with a dash of an Orwellian plotline.

Talk to us of campus "free-speech zones", the prosecution and persecution of individuals who speak their mind, and the anti-American hive mind of our current media - all "liberal" constructs.

You people are useless to this nation. Keep pushing, please.

The government should never be the speech regulating business, but realistically, notwithstanding Lieu's comments, the right has been in the speech regulating business as well. The Patriot Act was nothing but monitoring what people say to one another. You can't cry fire in a crowded theater, you can't threaten politicians, write about terrorist actions, etc. without a visit from the FBI, and rightfully so.

Politically correct speech can get ridiculous, but Lieu was asking for private action and not governmental action. And please do nor kid yourself, the right has its own form of political correctness as well.

It’s already a crime in Europe to talk negatively of the pedophile Mohammed, and the American Left are fine with it here too.

Just a rare Leftist in a rarer moment of honesty. The Hard Left Antifa Democrats would never get a single vote if they ever told voters what they REALLY thought, believed and stood for. For one thing, they are completely crazy, so only a nutcase thinks they make sense when closely examined. That is why Democrats have this massive propaganda machine for putting out what they WANT supporters and voters to believe!

Thank you for proving my point of the right's anti-press rhetoric. Free speech and the free press run hand in hand. The founding father's understood that. The dumbed down Trumpist right does not.

you are wrong, the right wants all speech to be free and open and have all viewpoints given equal time. The left doesn't want that because they know that when both sides are heard equally, they always lose. Liberalism can only win by silencing all opposition, and even libs understand that.

We don't currently have a free press. We have Democratic Party employees.

Anyone get fired or lose their business because they support homosexual marriage? Got a long list of those that support traditional marriage who have.

It’s conservatives who actively attack our rights . Except for the 2nd, they wipe their ass with the constitution.
