Texas school board to rewrite history
You really COULD pull your finger out of your ass and look around, pissant titmouse, perchance to see there's already a thread on this.

http://www.usmessageboard.com/current-events/109004-dont-mess-with-texas.html

Not that I really care, it just shows you don't bother reading.

NIce troll post asshole.

Sorry I'm not a loser who scours every single thread on the forum to see what is/isn't posted.
When I am thinking of starting a thread, I DO look around to see if there's already one on the same topic.

Trolls such as yourself, don't.

Everything the NYT writes is an opinion piece...except when the articles are just outright fiction, that is.

Yeah, great response. They just reported the facts of the texas school board, how is that "biased"? and NYTimes is a prestigious paper. But I know, anything conservatives disagree with must be biased bullshit

Generally the bias comes in the presentation like "look how bad they are for teaching kids about the founding fathers" vs "the state of Texas is now putting curriculum about the founding fathers in it".

apparently you didn't read the article. THere was quotes from people who supported this and those from those that do not. This was not an opinion piece

No I did not read it but generally that is how the bias come out in liberal newspapers. It takes factual things and places a negative light on them if they don't agree with it politically.

"Don't mess with Texas" is a thread title I"m supposed to know that's about the school board of texas? think not

Cynthia Dunbar, a lawyer from Richmond who is a strict constitutionalist and thinks the nation was founded on Christian beliefs, managed to cut Thomas Jefferson from a list of figures whose writings inspired revolutions in the late 18th century and 19th century, replacing him with St. Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and William Blackstone. (Jefferson is not well liked among conservatives on the board because he coined the term “separation between church and state.”)

Cut Thomas Jefferson, one of the key figures in the beginning of this country. wHat a joke

So they are cutting the Declaration of Independence too? What a bunch of idiots....they can't secede soon enough, IMO.

And they wonder why people think there should be federal standards?

It is a sad case of a handful of nut jobs pushing their beliefs on the kids of Texas. None of these fools are historians.

Thankfully, Dr. McLeroy, the dentist, was defeated in the recent elections. Unfortunately, he still has the rest of the year to muck things up

The parents of that state elected public officials to decide what is being taught. They made that decision in the political process. Why do you have such a problem with parents deciding what their kids learn? Don't you think it is the parent's right to pass on knowledge from one generation to the next as they see fit?

Do you think truth, and not what a particular group thinks, should be considered?

So you admit to be a hack, won't even read the article. Great, what I already knew about you

!

It doesn't matter if it is biased or not for two reasons:

1) Its THEIR schools that the parents of that state send THEIR kids to so they have whatever right to teach their kids whatever they want. Its not like Texas is demanding Wyoming to teach the same thing.

2) The question of bias is irrelevant because the information only has to be FACTUALLY CORRECT. Did we not forget that history has to be truthful?

I don't know what is your guy's problems sometimes. Many of the founders, as well as the people who lived at the time were religious so why should that be hidden from the history books. Would this really be an issue to anyone if this was a private education setting like a private school or home school?

___

Texans are doing what should have been done long ago. School books were hijacked by liberal do-goodism for decades - with an inherent anti-American slant contained therein.

Of this I know well - I have been deep in the pit of school textbook publication, and it is a most sordid and scandal-ridden world indeed!

Well done Texas - and given its influence on use of textbooks nationwide - this will hopefully initiate a much needed revision of the long standing liberal plague that has infested our public school text books...

There is really no way to phrase this nicely, you are so dumb it's frightening.

I can't really phrase this with less enthusiasm than this: GO FUCK YOURSELF!

Of course but why does one particular group think they can be the judge of what is accurate?

Texas Conservatives Win Vote on Textbook Standards - NYTimes.com

In recent years, board members have been locked in an ideological battle between a bloc of conservatives who question Darwin’s theory of evolution and believe the Founding Fathers were guided by Christian principles, and a handful of Democrats and moderate Republicans who have fought to preserve the teaching of Darwinism and the separation of church and state.

I especially find this comment ridiculous
“History has already been skewed. Academia is skewed too far to the left.”

Hmm, ever think that its not being skewed at all, its just that reality is more liberal. It's absurd to change history to suit politics, what a stupid stupid move IMO, but it is Texas,.

The fact is that history will FINALLY be taught as it actually was, with the people who really mattered to our history. You're just pissed off because the liberal version of distorted, perverted history that excluded the importance of Christopher Columbus discovering the Americas and Ronald Reagan winning the Cold War will no longer be ignored in our schools.

What I've noticed is that they will skew the founding fathers as racist yet make the progressives like saints but in actuallity the progressives were all communist/fascist and the left seems to think that history started with them.

Our war will continue...

"Handful of nut jobs?"

I believe it's a pretty accurate example of what the Republican Party has become in this nation.

Because 11 in 12 college professors voted for Obama and only 6% of scientists are Republicans, they feel "liberals" are "out of step" with America. The truth is, it's the Republicans who are "out of step". The educated vote against the Republicans because they understand that the party has no moderates. It's just a right wing radical lynch mob.

There are still the masses of liberal "instructors" who will dictate much of the actual content - but this much needed revision of the textbooks to a more accurate portrayal of the country's history is a step in the RIGHT direction...

I can't wait for the Texas board to determine what will be taught for the history of the Obama regime and how he nearly brought our country into a socialist state with his failed health care reform bill that the Democrats passed and brought into law without ever passing the bill. The truth must be told that the People took back their Congress and forced out the evil-doers.

I still on teaching "magical creation". Think of all the advances in biology, botany and physiology that comes from "magical creation". Finally, "REAL" science will make a comeback, "Astrology, alchemy, incantations, spells and potions, voodoo". I can't wait.

Do you know what is really funny about your statement? People still have a right to teach their kids those things if they want to because it is not up to you.

I think truth an accuracy should be taught above all else. It is true that some founders were slaver owners (reluctant ones at that) but they also laid the foundation for the concepts of freedom that our society still holds onto (or is trying to). The left don't like those concepts of freedom so they play up the 'evil slave owner' bit and remove completely the ideas of what they thought freedom meant.
