Texas Muslims Want to Build Homes and a Mosque. The Governor Says No. "Shariah law is not allowed in Texas"

Abbott is just like DeSantis, Trump, Noem and others. That is, he is an Israel First sort of man, proud to be on the Israeli leash, and thus a domestic enemy of the US Constitution.

So, say, a gay couple goes to a Muslim bakery there and asks them to make a special cake for their wedding.

Would you be okay with the bakery refusing?
In Texas? I don’t think that’s against the law. They’re pretty backwards. Hell, these guys are talking about enforcing laws against homosexual sex if SCOTUS would let them.

If any religion wants to develop a piece of real estate for the purpose of creating a space where its adherents can live in peace, there is nothing wrong with that.

The problem arises when/if the developer refuses to sell property or rent space to people not of that faith. That is illegal discrimination, even in Texas. But if it just happens that no such people are interested in locating there, no problem.

I imagine that there are communities in Utah where "gentiles" are not welcome. They can live there, but they may not be happy.

Nothing wrong with that.

‘Abbott has posted about the development at least 11 times in recent weeks. He suggested the developers may have violated fair housing and financial laws, and accused the Islamic center of conducting illegal funerals.

The governor ordered multiple overlapping investigations. Not to be outdone, the state’s conservative attorney general, Ken Paxton, added his own criminal inquiry.

The state’s actions have fueled opposition to the proposed housing development, known as EPIC City, before any initial plans have been submitted. At a hearing on the project in Collin County, where part of it would be located, hours of public comment included expressions of anti-Muslim hostility.

“I know what this would mean,” said another speaker, Krista Schild, a Republican precinct chair in Hunt County, where a portion of the project would be also be located. “Honor killings, stonings, marrying their young girls off to older men.”’

The fascist state of Texas.

There’s no limit to Republicans’ bigotry and hate, along with their ignorance and unwarranted fear.

"Unwarranted fear"? You truly are an idiot. There is every reason to be very concerned about the growth of Islam in this country, and throughout the west.

I hope Texas does the right thing and stops this shit in it's tracks.

If a Christian group wanted to create its own city, for Christians only, would this be a problem?

If you can answer "no" to that, then I guess a Muslim city is fine.

I didn't ask if Texas would permit it. I asked if YOU would object...the way you presumably objected to the Christian Colorado baker case.

I would definitely object with my own opinion. But I have no legal authority in Texas and I doubt they’d listen to me given their history of bigotry.

How 'bout you? Would you be okay with a Christian-only city?

If it was private land, and wasn't doing anything illegal, and they still had to abide by state and federal laws and they werent trying to force anyone into anything, sure, I'd be ok with that. It would be just like one giant club for Christians only.

Though...i could see some problems with it, mainly it would segregate people as other people would want to establish their own "private city"..

Following Sharia law in matters of lifestyle is okay. Following it in matters subject to state and Federal law is not.

Following it in matters of civil law is perfectly legal, it just can’t violate state or Federal law. It is no different than the way Orthodox Jewish communities use Halakha, or Catholics choosing to Canon Law. I would assume it is the same with groups like the Amish as well.

They were providing funeral services. The state told them to stop, because presumably they weren't licensed.

So they stopped. And?

I'm not confident there won't be any other similar mistakes.

There is no indication of that and they’ve been a part of that community for 20 years.

You’re free to believe what you wish but if you are trying to make this particular issue your hill to die on in order to demonstrate the evils of Islam, then it’s a pretty pathetic.

Good for them.

I'm sure you're desperate to believe that, but no.

I object to the fact that Sharia is not compatible with American laws.
No religious laws are, that is why the best government is a secular one.

However, if members of a particular faith want to follow the laws of their faith (in accordance with state and Federal law) there is no reason why they can’t. It appears that Abbot’s only objection to this planned development is that it is Muslim.
