Texas power providers got federal grants to shift the supply from natural gas to wind, but the grants were not enough to cover the cost of the heaters. THEN, because the grid shifted to that unreliable power source, some of the natural gas had been shut down. When they tried to restart that RELIABLE energy source, condensation in the pipes had frozen.

Had we NOT been relying on BULLSHIT wind, there would have been no problem at all.

Ice storms which shut down the Texas power grid have already happened TWICE this century, and 3 times in the past 35 years, so it's really not a "once in a century" occurrence.

The Texas Power Commission - an entirely REPUBLICAN oversight group, conducted a public enquiry into the 2011 outages and made a number of recommendations to improve the power supply, one of which was requiring suppliers to "harden" the system to cold weather, but that would require regulating the industry and making them spend money to improve the system.

The same week that a report came out which says that 700 Texans died as a result of that power outage - which Abbott has still said and done NOTHING about, and this Republican clown is completely ignored the fact that 700 Texans froze to death in the dark on his watch, and he's deflecting to what is happening on the Southern Border.

This is not competent governance. This is Republican dogma seeking to frighten people into voting for a government who actually works FOR THE PEOPLE, NOT THE CORPORATIONS.

The Republican election strategy seems to be that no matter how many American die on our watch, due to our refusal to provide for the "general welfare" of all Texans, we're not going to let a bunch of illegals to cross the border. We'll tend to that, but not to things that are killing Texans, like covid or freezing in the dark.

Anyone who would vote for this level of incompetence, shouldn't be surprised that their country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Democrats are far more successful in stopping the "illegal stampede" than Republicans. 300,000 Mexicans self-deported under Obama because he went after their employers, get 450 monitoring orders and issuing millions of dollars in fines to employers. As soon as Obama was gone, and Trump stopped prosecuting employers, the numbers surged.

The numbers go down under Democrats because there are no jobs waiting for illegals on the US side of the border when the Democrats are in charge. Furthermore, Democrats collect fines and levies from the employers, which pays for enforcement of immigration laws. Republicans refuse to prosecute employers, and spend billions in non-recoverable taxpayer dollars chasing illegals around the desert.

You want to reduce the costs of immigration enforcement, go after the employers and fine their asses for giving jobs to illegals. It saves YOU money in enforcement, and in the costs of prosecuting and deporting illegals. Going after the illegals costs YOU money and does nothing to reduce illegal immigration. Going after employers, effectively shuts down illegal immigration, and ends the problem of employers giving jobs to illegals.
