Tesla had a rocky relationship with China last year. After opening a gigafactory in China 2 years ago, the CCP began to sour on Tesla in favor of domestic EV producers. China shuts down anything it doesn't like, and this is clearly making Tesla nervous, as they are delivering a propaganda victory to the CCP by opening a showroom in the capital city of the region where China is committing an ongoing genocide. Elon Musk wants very badly for the CCP to like him. He attacks U.S. politicians over and over to the delight of internet trolls, but serves the CCP meekly and without complaint.

Does Elon own anything else? Oh yeah, SpaceX, currently the United State's most important company for accessing outer space. I'm sure that's no big deal.
